bob mc, please don't advertise that you got a burned disc or burned a disc for someone, whatever, especially if it's a recording involving Robben Ford. In Robben's world it's considered a no-no. Just some friendly advice. And, welcome to the best forum in the universe! |

Just came here to talk about guitar playing and guitar players.
There is no RF content on the CD that I got thru such devious means.
Guys, "pirating" is a strong word.
Take care. |

I discovered Albert Collins about 20 years ago, when I started college in western MA, and from the minute I heard him, I was hooked. Give Frosty a listen (off the Truckin' CD), and you'll immediately hear his influence on Robben.
As many of you have pointed out, AC's been rather poorly served by various reissues and unofficial recordings, but anything on Alligator Records is a good bet. I started with Ice Pickin', but for my favorite it's a toss-up between that and Cold Snap (particularly The Lights Are On (But Nobody's Home) and I Ain't Drunk). Frostbite's also great, as is Don't Lose Your Cool.
Of course, the best way to appreciate him was live, and I consider myself fortunate to have seen him on several occasions. I also have a few radio broadcasts that are fantastic, and which I'd be happy to share.
All around, a great bluesman! |

Can anyone else comment on it? I only have one of ACs recordings (two if I also count a John Zorn CD he's on) and never really liked it much.
I always try and follow up on a recommendation like this, but sometimes it doesn't pan out.
Thanks! |
I think it’s like this:
‘The Cool Sounds of Albert Collins’ was originally issued sometime in the ‘60s. It was a compilation of singles that AC had put out up to that time. Later the album was reissued as ‘Truckin’ with Albert Collins’.
So… ‘The Cool Sounds of Albert Collins’ = ‘Truckin’ with Albert Collins’…same album.
My favorite cut is ‘Don’t Lose Your Cool’, but the whole record is classic. Essential listening for any blues guitarist IMO. |
