Fantastic gig last night. First time i have seen Robben and was blown away, the guys a genius. He was superbly backed up by Carlton and Panos who were excellent.
Also got a brief word with Robben after the gig and he signed my CD Cover. Hope the band enjoyed Milton Keynes and will consider coming back in the future.
By far the best i have seen live.

Hi, can I ask where were you sitting, at the Stables.
As I said in another post, I was sitting at the left-hand side of the stage (on the Robben's side) and the acoustic there was a bit poor, as we couldn't hear the bass very well. |

I was that side too Dave.
The bass was a touch boomy for me where I sat but the overal mix still sounded pretty good. Robben as always was inspiring. Great unit.
Cracking gig. Hope it becomes regular venue for him when he's over. Sweeter drive that getting down to the Jazz cafe and nicer venue

Yeah, i think that was the only thing, the bass was very muddy at the low end but a small thing in a great gig, please come back to MK. |

Absolute class of the highest order (there are numerous ways of explaining the experience but that will do!)!
Firstly, the venue was probably the nicest I have ever been to and I have been to a few over the years. I wasn't sure if I would like a seated venue but it was superb. Picture Robben playing in your rather over sized living room while you were seated in your favourite armchair with your favourite tipple and you have the idea .
I can imagine the sound mix may have been compromised a little if you were sitting to the side but it was OK from where I was 3rd row from the front (C12) just off centre; I was the guy in the geeky multiple amp logo t-shirt).
Now to Robben. I have seen Robben 6 or 7 times now, and I can honestly say he never fails to amaze me. His performance has never lost any magic and this particular gig was fantastic. This is something I cannot claim for other great acts I have seen multiple times. His playing was jaw dropping, both solo wise and rhythm wise; his tone was amazing of course. The lovers of his diminished “out” runs are in for a treat!
Robben's set was predominately covering the Truth CD and it fitted the bill perfectly, and in fact it is a great live set. Robben never fails to stay sounding fresh in any genre of music he plays and I had the feeling Robben was loving the evening as he played through blues, rock and jazz (jing chi) type vibes. It is so evident that his playing, particularly when soloing, is beautifully improvised and was not just a compliation of well rehearsed licks.
I took a couple of friends with me (both great musician/guitarists in their own rights) and for one it was his first Robben gig. He was familiar with Robben's music but was not sure how entertaining he would find the gig. His face was a picture, and he is still on a high a couple of days later! I told him to get used to that feeling ready for the future gigs . It was also a picture to see the 3 of us at the end when we took a quick peek at his stage rig when all of a sudden Robben appeared behind us ready to start autographing CDs etc. We got caught up in the queue and I was confronted with Robben asking "where's your ticket I'll sign that if you wish?". Well we all grinned like school kids in a sweet shop with a hand full of coins and produced our tickets. We conveyed our praises and went on our way, raising a smile from Robben when my friend remarked to Robben "well you know what we will be listening to on the journey home......"
For all those attending the forthcoming gigs, enjoy!

I saw you, I remember the "geeky" t-shirt!!
I was there for the signing too, and once again I agree, Robben was on fire!
I'll see you at the next one, if you wear the same t-shirt I'll come to say hallo! |

You guys from the "perfide Albion", thanks again for the nice reports.
But it seems you just keep teasing me , what about shirts, skirts & shoes and why not kilts......Ok i don't care about "kilt is scottish" anyway , well on this one i think a lot of girls members are going to have a killer thought : Robben in Kilt . Ok , ok , but rather the doomy bass sound around CW 19 seat don't you have an extra thing to tilt up.?.
By the way diatonic Dude you're so wise that i counted how many times i've seen Robben and you're doing pretty well.
1° NICE 1986 /Miles Davis

Also, after the Milton Keynes gig I must say I've changed my mind about "Truth": although I never disliked it, I must be honest and say that I did not rank it amongst my favorite RF albums.
I may have been influenced by that amazing gig, but I haven't stopped listening it since.. |
