Does Robben ever button his shirt to the top? Is there a musical reason for this? Wink

I've seen a few photos of Nelson Mandela with his shirt buttoned right up and he was't wearing a tie - however, he wasn't playing a Telecaster at the time either.

Hmmm...... Doesn't button the cuffs either..... which leads to other
questions.... does he shave his forearms?...... or his chest?.....
I think life's to short to worry about such things.....back to practice...

It was OPEN, very open. He was smiling, his shirt was open, and he looked like he was having a great time. (We were!) Soooooooo good to hear Homework, Badge, Over my Head, Cannonball Shuffle, Keep On Runnin'. Oh, did I mention that his shirt was open, and yes, it was tucked in. Looking happy, playing wonderfully (as always) and some trade-off solos with Volker Strifler that were sooooooooo tasty. His shirt was open, too.

By the way, I have actually had at least three total strangers (not anymore) write to me about Robben's clothing and the way he wears his shirts, which has caused me to pay closer attention to them. Last night's was ecru silk; quite nice.

No, unfortunately not. I would have LOVED to have heard that live, and last night they all seemed to be in remarkably fine voice and string. I was surprised, figuring after the whirlwind tour in Europe, they might be tired. No way! They looked like they were having a blast!

Robben remarked that he had played a little club just up the street from where we were about 30 years ago, adding that there were probably quite a few of us who saw him there. (I DID!)

The act before Robben, Los Lonely Boys, was a total shock to me. These are three brothers, really young, who obviously listend to Jimi, SRV, and Santana as kids. They played a saucy hot blend of those three, injected with a nice taste of their own homegrown flavor. The synergy between them was fantastic. Not only did they play the hell out of their set, but they had the audience screaming, "Hell yeah!" when they asked if we wanted more. (What more could my seventh grade students ask for? No homework, staying out late, great music, including his first time seeing Robben live, AND getting to swear! What a joy it was.) In their encore number, the guitar and bass player were reaching across each other, playing each other's instrument...there was a familial affinity that oozed from the stage. I love to watch musicians who are maxxing out on joy...the love between these three guys was so obvious, and I know I always sound so flippin' corny, but sheeesh, it's great stuff, love.

I was surprised at the obvious fact that this audience was definitely there to see Blues Traveler (hey, they're okay, I even like a few of their songs, but they all start sounding the same to me...) There is no air in their music, so for these fussy ears, it sounds muddy and chaotic. There were moments when there were some nice sounds coming from the individuals (particularly the keyboard player) and I do like the harp and lead vocal, but it was soggy, with too much of everything else IMHO. And what do I know? The crowd went wild for them, so go figure. Just like it has always has been for me...the discretion of my taste is not (nor has it ever been) that of the masses.

My students all tell me I look tired today...("When did you start wearing glasses, Ms. Gage?) Late nights = major fun, and no contact lenses on the following day!

And all of you who found me in the crowd last night, I feel like a dignitary. Thank you. Smile
