Hi Gang,
I'm gona start another blues project hear in the south bay and this is one of my songs to sing and play harp on. Anyways, I can't totally make out what he's singin in that 2nd verse, I searched the net and found a lot of these lyrics below which is pretty much what I have BUT, I think he is singin
(payin prime) NOT (bankin kind)
ya know like payin the prime interest rate, maybe it was one of those
adjustables, hee hee.
Anyways let me know what you all have heard, maybe live in concert?
Hey, maybe Robben Hisself will let us know,
Cheers,

Robben Ford - Lateral Climb Lyrics
The sun heats up another working day
Coffee, tea, and I'm on my way
Try to beat the traffic
And maybe yesterdays time
Try to make a little progress
In what's lookin' like a lateral climb
Put behind me, my spendthrift ways
And I've made more money than I did in those days
Used to carry a debt of twenty grand
(bankin kind?)
And I've still got nothin'
It's lookin like a lateral climb
Our leader's addicted
To oil and war
Says it's freedom that we're fightin' for
Applause, applause
For bald face white collar crime
And they leave you stranded
Believin' in a lateral climb
The sun heats up another working day
Coffee, tea, and I'm on my way
What once was a dollar
Is lookin' more like a dime
Heads up people
It's nothin' but a lateral climb
A lateral climb |

Hi Patfitz,
I hear payin' prime
and coffee, KEYS, and I'm on my way
... although the first time I heard this song on youtube, just before the cd was released, I thought he sang: coffee, QUICHE, and I'm on my way. Do 'real men' eat quiche?
We should have a contest to see who can re-write the funniest lyrics for a RF song. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

Yes i can tell you the Quiche Lorraine is something you must taste.
Lorraine is a North East county (next germany) but the recipe is used in all the country.
May be Robben tasted this during his last Provence trip last year, and as a real bluesman he likes to changes some lyric lines in a live situation now and then ....? but i am amazed (and feel less guilty )sometimes you have trouble to get the right words form your native language. Well it's not that a surprise 'coz once i asked a friend of my daughter bornt in england and living mainly in the bay area to translate me a ZZ top tune , or just helping writing down the right words , oh she did but 80% of the work telling what she can't understood must be "pure" Texan............
Coming back to play with lyrics once i was playing a club and facing a table full bimbos while performing "Chevrolet"à la Robben Ford i changed
some words in :I buy you a cheap Honda ,that's just what you need.
Well i don't likesome bimbos. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=147748 |

I've wondered if this song was ever titled "Matter of Time" in an early draft _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

I originally thought 'paid in time' but now listening again I'm going to go with 'payin' prime'.
Either one makes sense so it's hard to go wrong. _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

Coffee AND tea? Nah, I think this is just a repeat of the first verse - "coffee, keys, and I'm on my way" _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |
