Any review ?
I've read strange things about this gig.
Seems to be a lack of communication....
A lot of people think (oh my god when the masses think) Mr Ford may have health issues....
The nosy Lobster.
It's quite logical that some of you were there !!!

Yeah, something must have been terribly wrong. This is from people I trust.

Yep, it looks like something went really wrong Confused
The flash thing seems to have affected Robben quite a lot this time.
That's a bit strange from a person I consider to be rather zen, guess he was pushed over the edge.

I feel very bad for RF, I know what its like to try and do your job and get no cooperation. Robben has high standards and expectations for himself and the people around him so he must have been really pissed off.

I get pissed off at work and lose it very rarely but it happens, I just don't have 100s of people watching.

This will just have to go down in the history books as a really bad night and on to better things.

Wow! I've read all the posts so far and really don't know what to make of it, especially all the negative stuff from people who weren't there and are just speculating. But the guy who started the thread, who's very familiar with Robben, and had a front row seat, had some very scary and disturbing insight...

How long ago was this fest, and has Robben performed since? Another thing I wonder about is what was happening with Toss and Travis during this whole thing? Not one mention of how they performed under the circumstances...

One other comment. I only go to the gear pages when linked to it for things like this, and while there was some interesting posts from obviously knowledgeable and sensible people, I found that the ones who feel that Robben is full of himself are pretty much full of themselves... Wink

That was this past weekend. I'm still going to see him monday night in Santa Cruz. Robben can have bad days and he has his eccentricies like anyone else, but the man is a genius, the best at what he does.

I just hope that whatever caused it is over. If I could get to the next concert, I'd be there, too.

Absolutely- this wouldn't stop me either from going to an upcoming show!

I can only imagine that perhaps Robben felt under-appreciated and maybe even a little jealous not being on the main stage. These are very normal, human emotions. Throw in some annoyances like camera flashes and whatever, and an already shortened fuse is at its end...

BTW, I didn't get the Kayne West references. Or, maybe it's just Gear Page insider stuff sort of like the Blobby Decoder Ring(tm) in here? Laughing

Great to hear our hero can be really nasty too. I mean what are we? Puppets on a string? Why should one always make a nice face to all shit? Say what you mean and mean what you say.
If the organisation doesn't put him on main stage that's a sign of poverty in mind either of the organisation of the festival or of Robben's management. Both possibilities might have drove him crazy, esp. if they'd come together.

After the Grammy nominated album 'Truth' he should be on main stage! As simple as that!

I read the thread on the Gear Page.

Daved can you corroborate or give us an insight to what really went down at the Monterey Blues fest?

I read about it on the Gear Page as well...it's a shame really...something was seriously wrong that night. Aside from being put on the local's stage, having his name misspelled (Robbin), and having issues with the sound man...

Robben killed at Kuumbwa last night. Used his Dumble, Super Reverb, Tele, and Shakashta. Robben played with a lot of fire, sang great, tone was huge. No Zendrive needed. There is no one in the same vicinity of this guy, my friends. Some of the guys he's compared with in this style can't carry his jock. The chords he uses, the way he solos, theres no one he can be compared to. He has totally his own thing, sounds totally different than Bonnamassa, Stern, Feiten, anyone else. That was reaffirmed for me last night just how deep musically he really is. He's like Beck, when he feels like playing he's just better than everyone else in his realm. Some of the chord voicings, especially while singing, the wah wah work, the use of the volume pedal, ridiculous! And the soloing, well, he's Robben and other guitarists just aren't. I've seen him a ton of times and this is the best i've seen him. For me there's just nobody close doing that thing he does.

Glad you had a good time, RF just gets better for me also. Out of 7 viewings he has been better then the time before every time except for one and that was marginal. His feel and chord choices are amazing and he makes it look so easy.

I was one of the lucky few that saw him in 2007 with Greg Mathieson, lucky me....

I don't care about the rant, its over and on to better days. I bet my boss freaks out once a week worse then RF did Neutral
