Nice, concise review there, RS. I'm glad you didn't elaborate on Robben's clothing item that no one else can carry... Laughing

Robben was dressed to the nines. For Elizabeth: Black and silver shirt (silver or white graphics), black pants with angled zippers where the pockets go, black what looked to be alligator shoes (very cool). That guy knows how to dress for a show!

Robben killed at Kuumbwa last night. Used his Dumble, Super Reverb, Tele, and Shakashta. Robben played with a lot of fire, sang great, tone was huge. No Zendrive needed. There is no one in the same vicinity of this guy, my friends. Some of the guys he's compared with in this style can't carry his jock. The chords he uses, the way he solos, theres no one he can be compared to. He has totally his own thing, sounds totally different than Bonnamassa, Stern, Feiten, anyone else. That was reaffirmed for me last night just how deep musically he really is. He's like Beck, when he feels like playing he's just better than everyone else in his realm. Some of the chord voicings, especially while singing, the wah wah work, the use of the volume pedal, ridiculous! And the soloing, well, he's Robben and other guitarists just aren't. I've seen him a ton of times and this is the best i've seen him. For me there's just nobody close doing that thing he does.
I was there, I agree on all counts. Toss and Travis were great too. Trio action, I love it. Gives Robben room to milk that vast reservoir he has.

Well I read a bunch of the comment on the gear page and the one
thing I noticed is that there may be something going on with Robben's
eyes.
Here is a fellow that has been playing under the bright lights for
a good 30 years. Those stage lights carry a huge wattage. I did
notice about a year ago when I saw him at Yoshi's in Oakland that
he was blinking kind of hard during his solos. I was thinking of
posting something but decided not to, now with this I will comment.
So, I'm starting to think that besides not wanting a bunch of bootleg
pictures and videos floating around maybe the flashes are really
bothering him and possibly agravateing his pre-existing condition.
I work in front of a computer now, didn't make it as a rock star,
and I have problems myself. Maybe he will start wearing dark black shades, hmmm.
Anyways, I can't imagine playing all
the gigs he does, along with sleeping in strange beds and eating road food,
and never showing any emotion when you are tired and frustrated.
Yay, Robben is human after all. I am glad I didn't see it though.
Regards,
-pf
