Hello to all, I am Gary Muncy
I am from " way back up in the evergreens."
( But I did learn to read and write so well and that's why my guitars ring like a bell )
I build guitars in Maryville , TN
I saw a critical need for correctly building the fixed pitch instrument known as the guitar.
I am a luthier, but I am also a Toolmaker, I really can make an AXE !
The fixed part :
I changed what cannot work on the fixed pitch guitar to what does.
1. Scrapped ! The Fingerboard.
The guitar raised fret fingerboard is built to produce notes that are not to pitch. Grab your tuner and check each fretted note, this is easy to do.
2. Scrapped ! The Frets.
A fret is installed on the guitar in a parallel spacing using the modified rule of eighteen formula. As some of you know mathematics is the only true science we have and use. This formula does not work for correcting the pitch error caused by string tension increase while fretting.
3. Scrapped ! The Nut.
The Nut on most guitars is Parallel matching to the frets. The only possible intonation is at the Octave, and open tuning.
4. Scrapped ! The Truss rod.
The truss rod holds the neck straight until the weather, or wood structural compression changes the neck set. The cavity channel for the truss rod also adds to dead spots on the neck.
Now we know ! why a guitar can't be tuned.
We fixed all that, and more.
Maybe Daved can add to this article.

Hey !, Blue Lobster
Thanks !
You can tune and check each note , and record what you get, then you will know what note is coming from your guitar.
I keep seeing players tuning and tuning and trying to get the guitar to play in tune but a FIXED PITCH instrument is exactly that condition.
FIXED ! = Notes locked to exact frequency's
A guitar is fixed To the exact note at each fret, and each fret is in the improper location except for the octave. The tuning can be open tuned to pitch and then tuned at the octave. This tuning will allow 12 notes to play in tune. The other fretted notes will be out of tune by varying amounts.
Check out the best of both worlds for the fingerboard, fret positions on a near fretless fingerboard, ( muncyguitars.com ). JohnnyZ talked about a decoder ring he uses sometimes for this forum, but I have mapped all fret positions and corrected the errors so players will not have to worry with tuning in the future. _________________ The vulgarity of money has to be discussed eventually. |

JohnnyZ,
We can do repairs to a guitar, but we are a guitar manufacturing company and what we do is build new instruments with a patented system for the twelve tone equal temperament scale.
The system is very precise for quality of pitch. The guitars are supplied with a new designed Fingerboard, and a new designed Nut. The bridge is a fully adjustable six saddle design allowing independent adjustment for the playing action height of each string.
The system allows Muncy Guitars to supply a certification of traceability to The Time and Frequency Division of NIST. The National Institute of Standards and Technology, in Washington D. C.
We are the only guitar company to certify the traceable quality the fretted notes you will play on your instrument.
In the future we might supply a retrofit bolt on neck for certain guitars currently built with the bolt on type neck design. The beautiful sound of the chords played on this type of fingerboard system is astounding. _________________ The vulgarity of money has to be discussed eventually. |
