If you haven't checked out the News section of Robben's site, you may want to. He's going to start his next tour by doing a live DVD recording at The New Morning in Paris in early October. Then he'll be recording a live CD at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco Jan. 13, 14 and 15, 2009.

The show that I plan to attend on 2/8/09, presumably from this same tour, is billed as:

Guitar Blues with Jorma Kaukonen

Featuring three of the most acclaimed blues players in America today. Join Hot Tuna's Jorma Kaukonen, the legendary Robben Ford of the Yellowjackets, and the phenomenal rising star Ruthie Foster for a very special evening of music featuring the wonderful six-stringed instrument that is the heart and soul of the genre.

I'm curious what the format will be, although I'm guessing 3 separate performances intermixed with duo and trio get-togethers like the John Mayall & Bluesbreakers/Eric Bibb/Robben Ford "Rockin' Blues" tour of a couple of years ago...

Btw, the Jazztage Leverkusen concert that was broadcasted earlier this year would have definitely deserved a DVD release.

It seems that there were no cameras in sight at the New Morning gig. Or maybe the guy I spoke to didn't see them (a bit unlikely but still...)

The band will only record a live CD at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco next year.

Hi there, well, as a matter of fact, THERE WERE cameras in Paris, not too many, but at least an insistant one...Which quite disturbed our beloved Robben"Chevy"Hood...He went at least twice to the edge of the stage to talk to that young guitar tech dude, and try to have him catch a security guy and get that cameraman.
It didn't quite work, as, strangely enough, the security boys have at last lived and learnt how to be smiling & cool with the audience, with the CUSTOMERS ! Wow !
Vive la Frunce!
-Please get someone, or robben to clearly explain the problem to the audiences, before the shows, in 2 or 3 languages, that will settle it !
So Robbie mumbled quite a lot throughout the show.
At one point he even spoke these words note for note:
"I could almost feel damned GREAT, instead of feelin' like leaving the stage..."
Hé oui...
Even Toss Panos, the grrreat greek fishmonger tried to relax everyone," pointig at Robben : "HEE-NOO-LIIKE-PICTUUURES !".
Well...
But folks, besides that, the show was damned good, a bit fragile, quite inspired, great playing, Toss kicked ass & the drums (monster musician), Travis Carlton was on,not quite ripe enough (to my taste, ok?),but super close, and tries hard. Time will do it. Can't help missing Roscoe's passing chords & all that jass.

And,despite some tuning problems (moist as in Bangkok in there) Robben was Exellent .

Yep.

That's all folks

Hi there Birdie Very Happy
Thanks for the review from Paris. I think we're all looking forward to a new live DVD from Robben. The band has toured a lot with the Truth album music. They've got their live arrangements worked out and I hope a DVD is in the works.
