Well... Brown Note, Fuchs, Two Rock, Glaswerks, Bludotone, Ceriatone, Carol-Ann...there's a whole lot of Dumble-like amplifiers builders around nowadays. |

$%#!
I broke my Zendrive on the weekend.
What do you know... connecting the 9V DC line with the polarity around the wrong way does matter (I think it was on for a while before I fired everything else up and realised I had a problem). One of my other pedals is also not happy, but I'm really p*ssed at myself about doing this to the Zen.
It's given some respite to my old AC which was about to go on ebay. I normally use a BB Preamp with the Zen and spent a few hours AB'ing other pedals (including another BB) and the AC was the best fit. This is going to irritate me though while the Zen goes on a little trip to Florida.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I feel better now.

Are a Zendrive an a BB Preamp a good couple of overdrive to play blues and classic rocks ('60 and '70)?
Personnaly I use the BB with a low drive setting an the Zendrive for higher overdrived sounds.
I use them throuw my combo Mesa DC-3 (clean channel).
An other question:
What would be for you the best overdrive to use with the Zendrive ?
Thanks :-) _________________ Don't worry, be happy |

I spoke too soon (see above) and stuffed up my AC booster as well.
I must learn to troubleshoot better! Problem turned out to be with the 9v distribution on my pedalboard - some strange short out in one of the 9v DC outlets.
Have bought an MI-Audio "Blues Boy Pro" to fill in for the meantime. Very flexible and nice pedal. Not to my taste as much as the Zen though; more TS pedigree than anything else. I'm going to try some different op-amps in there (now that I know what these are after blowing a few up).
Re - BB + Zen. This is my normal combination and works nicely for me. Not sure it's a classic rock combo but a good one all the same. Through a DC-3 it would work differently to my usage anyway (+ speaker sim direct to PA). I use them both with low->mid drive settings for different flavours when seperate, and a nice saturated lead when run together. Due to my own stuff ups (see above) I've been through a few pedal combos recently and I still like having the BB + Zen so I think it's a good combination.

I don't use any effect like phasing, flanger, vibe, delay .... Exept a wah and a little reverb.
So, to give some color to my sound, I do it with the overdrives.
With my little rig, I have 5 sounds and it's enough to cover all what I play. _________________ Don't worry, be happy |

ok, do u have something like Fuzz face or big muff.??These are great sounds. I met a guy who used a Tube screamer (green one) the yellow boss od and another ibanez kind of T 797 ????. With a soldano .
I thought itwas useless. But the fact is you can achieve great tones anyway. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=147748 |

Great sound! Nice take on Heard The Angels Sing. And, how can one obtain an album?
And now, for something completely different check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0OdPeRXi28
It's Robben Ford meets Stevie Ray V meets lemonjefferson...

Many Thanks! If you PM me with your address I'd gladly send you a free copy its nice to make friends across the net!
I was introduced to the SOV pedal through my good friend Paul Wright here in the UK and I owe him for helping me to get my tone sorted out (still a long long way to go!)
I tried the zen drive alongside the SOV 2 at a gig not long ago and both are amazing pedals and just down to personal choice I guess but I think the SOV sounds better with a stratocaster (single coils) the SOV has a slightly darker tone than the Zen in my opinion.
My favorite Robben tone at the moment is New Morning Paris DVD - liquid notes!!!! |

I took my Zen 2 around to a friend's house over the weekend, to use with a guitar he's just swapped p/ups in. The long version of this story involves too much time in the practice room, waay too much volume - and a very stiff talking-to from his 7 year-old daughter on both subjects.
The short version is this; He wants a Zen 2 and I absolutely have to have a guitar with some Seymour Duncan P-Rails in. They were sublime ...and astonishingly versatile. Four distictly different and (most importantly) usable sounds out of one pick-up?! I'm a fan. _________________ I first started to play guitar 35 years ago... Trouble is, I had 20 years off in the middle. |

Hello Everyone. My name is Chris Blackwell and this is my first post on here. In fact, I'm not even sure I'm doing it right. I guess I'll find out when I try to post this...Anyway..I thought I would weigh in on this particular subject because I think I feel the way most of you do. The zen drive is a fantastic pedal. I find it to be very complex in the-mid-range with enough high end to keep it from sounding muddy.I always play a strat so I can't really speak for humbuckers personally but I'm sure its just as pleasant.I said that to say this,on my pedalboard right beside my zen is a jetter pedal. They have both been off and on my board many a time..replaced with this or that (keeley, hao, home brew, you name it..).I made a living for several years with a stock boss blues driver...however,I do play music for a living so for a while all I could afford was a blues driver.lol!! But you know where I'm going with this..ones tone is beyond ones gear..even beyond ones hands i.e.touch,attack,etc.. Your tone is in your lifestyle and your heart and your imagination.IMHO. It starts there and finds its way out thru the other stuff |
