It seems the new Heritage 65's were reintroduced 2 years ago. Is there anyway to tell if I am getting the newer "Robben approved" versions, or are the speakers produced from 2 years ago (when they first came back on the market) lacking in the tone dept?

I'm not sure of the Heritage history (perhaps those who have followed Celestions production of them closer can chime in here) because I was focused elsewhere with Robben at the time.

However, I can say that when Alf hooked me up with the reps at Celestion earlier this year, he told me they had been wanting Robben to try the new 65's since they started the Heritage reissues a year or two before.

The first protos which Robben had tried, which he disliked because they lacked low end, had been sent to us 2 or 3 years before that and I believe the few on the market at the time were quickly discontinued. I also cannot remember them as being referred to as "Heritage".

Thanks for the input! They probably did away with the early design after consulting Robben. I'm sure the one's available now, or even the stock from a year or two ago, are fine.

The Robben endorsed speakers are the Heritage G12-65's

Hi,

Do you believe that the Heritage G12-65' could sound nice with a deluxe reverb as amp ?

I'm very interest by the Tonker too but the 102dB output let me think that it would be louder in certain cases.

Maybe Dave, can you tell us what are the differences between this two brands of speakers ?

What I'm sure is that speakers are a very important point to achive the tone and I understand now for a part where comes from this Robben's unique special sweet and mellow twang ... the rest is in his fingers and his personnal mind and that we can't buy.

Wink

When I went to Robben's clinic in Ojai in 2006, he was playing a BFDR with a Celestion, but I think it was a V30.

A 65-watt speaker like the G12-65 might be too much speaker for a DR to push properly, but I guess it depends on the sound you want. That speaker would stay very clean with that amp.

Thanx for your answer Tele295.

The V30 is a 60W speaker, it's not very different in power with the 65W of the G12-65.

I don't think that Robben is a guy who looks for the speaker distortion but this is not a certainty for me ...

My knowledge and experience about speakers are not sufficient to really feel when a speaker begin to break up.

Have you got some experience to share to help me in this way.

Daved - I have an 8 ohm G12-65 which has developed a pea sized hole in the cone. The hole is in the "surround" area near one of the mounting holes.

Do you presently have a recone service which you are satified with? Has Celestion issued a new kit now that they have the reissue dialed in? Or... Do you recommend I just plug the hole with some silicon sealant or something.
