Allman Brothers Plotting Star-Studded 40th:
BluesWax fans heard it first from Warren Haynes in Don Wilcock's exclusive interview last week, but it has now been confirmed that The Allman Brothers Band plans to use its 2009 engagement at New York's Beacon Theatre as the focal point for the Southern Blues-Rock group's 40th anniversary celebration.
“We're planning a big one, man, a real big one," founding band member Gregg Allman told Billboard.com. "We're trying to get all the people we know that we've played with to come and sit in and play."
A number of performers have confirmed that they'll be part of the celebratory shows, Allman said, but he declined to offers specifics.
"I can't tell you all the secrets," Allman said with a laugh. "Just think about all the people we've played with. We're shooting to get all of them. Of course, people are on tour, but not usually so much in March as they would be, say, in August."
The Allmans' 2009 return to the Beacon -- where their spring multi-night stands have become a tradition over the past 20 years -- will also be big news because the group had to cancel a 15-show stint in May while Allman was treated for long-festering hepatitis C.
"I've never done that," the singer and keyboardist said of the cancellation, "and had it not been a total emergency, I wouldn't have done it this time. But I just flat couldn't make it, man. They make you take this (medication), you might as well plan on staying home for half a year.
"It's hell, man. It's really hell, but it worked. I don't have all my strength back yet, but I'm getting totally back up on my feet again. And the shows have been wonderful."
The Allmans are on a stretch of late-summer shows that wraps October 11 in Atlanta. The group, whose last studio album was 2003's Hittin' the Note, is playing a couple of new songs, and guitarist Warren Haynes said there's "probably about half an album done" and ready to record.
"We haven't been able to think about much lately except getting through this year," Allman noted, "but, yeah, next year will be really nice to get into the studio. We're looking forward to that."

Yes, the shows out here have been mostly sold out.
Gregg is sounding and looking the best he has in years. Almost a youthful glow about him... LOL
I keep hearing alot of discussion in the organization about next year being a huge tour year. No real details yet as planning continues. _________________ B C-ing U!

Nothing definite yet (I need to know myself so I can work out my schedules with Robben), though those discussions are starting to be looked at in management.
I've heard talk of a possible December-January GA&F run, but it's all still up in the air as they work out the ABB plans.
'll let you know when I hear something concrete. _________________ B C-ing U!

Daved, this could be the perfect moment for the Allmans to come to europe! I cannot remember the last time they were here. Is there any chance at all? _________________ "Don't play what's there, play what's not there" Miles Davis

ABB at Warren's Xmas jam went very well, tho production of the event itself was a little shaky.
Scheduling got very behind, to the point that Derek cut his portion of the show down by a few songs to make up time.
Even so, ABB hit the stage at about 3 a.m., 2 hours past our scheduled start time, finishing about 4:30 in the morning. It was 6 a.m., with the morning sun arising when I closed the doors on the semi after load out... just in time to go back to the hotel, take a quick shower and head for the airport to fly to Savannah to load in at Gregory's house for the GA&F rehearsals during the following week.
Robben was there for 2 nights, sat in with many differant artists over both nights of the jam, and had a lot of fun.
GAF rehearsals at Gregg's went extremely well.
Rolling Stone magazine was around for the first couple of days interviewing Gregg and taking photos of him around his home, for an upcoming article I'd imagine.
I noticed that Gregg's health is very much improved and I saw a much more vibrant, strong, positive Gregory than I ever have since first beginning to work with him a few years ago.
We have a new young guitarist, Scott Sharrard, from NYC and have worked up several new tunes (obscure covers of very bluesy songs [Bobby 'Blue' Bland and others] that have been on Gregg's 'want-to-do' list for years). Gregg was very happy with rehearsals and felt we got a lot done. He's looking forward to a lot of touring with GAF and ABB this year.
And, speaking of ABB, I can't divuldge much yet but, for those of you who are into the Allman Brothers Band, this 40th anniversary year is turning into a year NOT to be missed.
I am hearing of a whole new lighting rig and show being put together with modern state-of-the-art lighting incorporated in with new liquid light presentations.
The Beacon shows are shaping up to be something very spectacular. If you are a hardcore Allman fan, I suggest you keep an eye on the ABB website for confirmed info as it comes in.
There is talk of a special project headed by Butch in which the entire Beacon run may be streamed on the internet and fans, for a fee, will be able to download any or all of it on their computers.
I'm also starting to hear of some of the guest artists that will be sitting in. Believe me, though I can't drop names, some are HUGE (including one rock/blues icon who I'm told has confirmed & will sit in for a couple of nights).
And there are solid rumors of one, tho yet unconfirmed, who has been a long time coming and will blow you away if you are a longtime fan of the ABB and familiar with their history.
There is also talk of possible new video and audio recording projects this year. We shall see.
This looks like it's shaping up to be a monumental year for the Allman Bros Band. _________________ B C-ing U!

LB, Wish I could give you more positive news, but sadly, I don't think you can expect it to happen... at least, not any time soon.
I, myself, would love to see ABB go Euro, but those who have been around a lot longer than me say that the Bros just don't leave the States at all anymore and haven't in many years.
I'm sure production costs has a good deal to do with it.
However, on the positive side, Gregory DID take GA&F to Europe and London briefly, a little over a year ago, and that was a milestone for him. Perhaps, with his new found energy and enthusiasm, he'll surprise us all.
I'll definitely let you know if I hear of any foreign touring rumblings. _________________ B C-ing U!

Thanks for posting the link Daved.
I've been planning to hook the wii up to our wireless network so I can watch internet videos (like youtube, etc.) on the big screen TV. It would be great if I could have it all figured out by the Beacon Theatre run.
Has anyone on the forum figured out how to do this yet? I saw something on the news last week saying there is an easy way to do this. _________________ Travelling by train of thought
