According to one user it has more range in the tone control than the MXR III and better upper range harmonics. I haven't played either so YMMV!

Scratch that reasonably priced comment. I looked on Harmony Central and they sold new for $29.99 at GC.

The seller claims they were sold at that price as a loss leader and retail should be what he is asking. But I saw where some people bought them for as little as $20. I think I'll keep my Sparkle Drive.

Thanks for solving the mystery guys. FYI, you can get a new Distortion III for $80 from Musicians Friend. $70 for scratch 'n dent.

Can't wait until Ford/MXR mania hits The Gear Page (and for a pedal that briefly sold for $30!).

Hello All,
Ive been a Robben fan for 20 years and finally joined this wonderful discussion group a few minutes ago. I had the pleasure of seeing two shows last week first in Englewood NJ and in Poughkeepsie NY. Here are some observations i made during the shows. For those of you who didnt get to see the shows the format was as follows: First Ruthie Foster came out and did a short acoustic set followed by Jorma Kaukonen doing his own acoustic set. After a short intermission Robben came out and did his set. After this Ruthie and Jorma came out with Robben and his band. After the second song
Robben walked over to his Dumble played with a couple of knobs and realized the Dumble was not working. He looked over to the guitar tech who came out with a flashlight who looked at the back of the Dumble then looked at Robben with this look on his face that said "Sorry Dude no more Dumble tonight." Robben then quickly moved on to adjusting the knobs on the Super Reverb. After some adjustments Robben unplugged his cable from the Volume pedal and Wah pedal and plugged directly into the Super Reverb. There was no Zendrive or any other Overdrive pedal available at that time so Robben played with the Super Reverb cranked to get some overdrive. All this happened within two or three minutes during a song. Robben played the rest of the night on the neck pick-up on the Tele, i also want to mention he played the Tele the whole night while a Gold Top Les Paul with P-90's sat on a guitar stand. Three days later i saw the second show and i was very curious to see if the Dumble would be fixed in time. Well it wasnt there. His replacement amp was a red tolex "Louis Electric" head and a black "Louis Electric" 2x12 cabinet. The Super Reverb was there and he had a pedal on the floor which i thought was the Zendrive at first( his pedals were behind his monitor which obstructed my view) but after reading the post from Bad Juju i agree that it was something different. I have seen Robben many times with the Zendrive and this time
in my opinion the gain and distortion was much higher than previous shows and he was playing more aggressive and his solos had many more notes than three days previous with the Dumble before it quit on him. Just thought id pass this info on to you guys and i promise my next post will not be this long!

Welcome spydermurphy, and thanks for the great review (I still owe one from the Poughkeepsie show). From where do you hail? And, your comment about Robben's solos having "many more notes" is something I was going to comment on because I was amazed at how quick he played as opposed to the other times I've seen him. Perhaps it was Jorma's influence because that man can fast-pick too. BTW, don't worry about the length of your posts- Daved has you beat by a mile, and we always appreciate reading his inputs... I picked one up on Ebay for a good price. I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it.

It got here yesterday. It looks to be in like new condition. I checked Robben's settings from the picture and duplicated them. I tried it with a Strat, an LP with P90's and and Ibanez 335 clone. I also tried the factory suggested settings. Robben's seemed a little on the hot side for my taste. It's a nice pedal, but it doesn't do as much as my Sparkle Drive and doesn't sound any better. My SD has the Keeley mod that gives it a bit more drive, but I have never used it full on anyway. My take on the M86 is that I'll probably keep it for a backup, but I wouldn't spend the $99 that one seller was asking. If you can get one for $45 or less plus shipping like I did - it's a nice pedal for that price.

Thanks for the review - I was wondering how it was going to sound. Robben did fiddle with the settings a little during the first song, so he may have tried to bring it down some.

I may try one out if I find a cheap one - as you said, in the $45 range.
