Just a quick note to say I caught the second Chicago-area stop of the Guitar Blues tour up at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL.

Nice venue--standard smallish college performing arts theatre setup. Friendly folks, comfy seats, relatively intimate size. Good crowd.

Overall, the sound was good. Only issue was that the bass was muddy, which really limited how much of Dewayne's contributions I could hear. I figured we were in a bit of trouble on that front when I could hear boomy resonances on certain notes during the CD (Eric Bibb, I think) they were playing prior to the show.

Great show. Ruthie Foster is awesome, and I will be in line for tickets anytime she comes back to town. Killer vocals and guitar chops.

I enjoyed, but didn't love, Jorma's solo segment. I think Jorma's presence was responsible for a fair bit of the turnout, but personally I would have enjoyed more Robben and Ruthie and less Jorma.

That being said, I particularly appreciated Jorma's presence on the last two songs. The last song of the main ("Gotta Served Somebody") featured all 3 on vocals, which worked beautifully.

The encore ("Don't think twice....") with just the three of them (Robben on electric and Jorma and Ruthie singing and playing acoustics) was unforgettable.

Robben was great. Nice selection of tunes, voice was in great shape, and playing was top-notch. Got pretty adventurous at times on solos, to good effect.

Tones were prototypical Robben magic. Played the Tele all night, through the usual two-amp Dumble/Super Reverb setup (the Dumble was back after a repair hiatus).

Certainly a show worth catching if you're on one of the later tour stops.

Tom I wondered if you were going to be there, or at the first show.I knew you wouldnt miss both as long as you are in town. I cant add anything that you havent already said.(Maxi and me were at the same show). I have to agree robbens solos sometimes did get "adventerous" some times verrrry adventerous, but he pulled them off as only robben can..Thats one thing I love about Robbens playing, he always takes it up a notch from the last time I seen him.Some players stay the same, some get worse. Robben always has something new in his playing. The only thing I could add is I would have liked to have seen him play longer of course! and more of his own music, but over all it was a great show!!
