I thought the bass could have been better in the mix though.

I want to share my thoughts on the show- perhaps tonight when I get some time, however, I came across this bio of DeWayne Pate because I mistakenly mentioned to DaveH at the show that Pate was the bass player in RF & the Blue Line. Anyway, it made me chuckle when I saw "guitar God Robben Ford"- the G being capitalized. I guess there's god, then there's God! Laughing

And now that I think of it, last Sunday night Robben most definitely was a guitar GOD! Cool

Dewayne Pate was born in Richmond California, in the cradle of East Bay Funk, and started playing bass at the age of 15. In 1980 Dewayne moved to Los Angeles where he attended the Musicians Institute and studied with bass virtuoso Jeff Berlin. Since returning to the Bay Area Dewayne has displayed his wide dynamic range and versatility by working with artists such as Huey Lewis and the News, Tracy Nelson, Pete Escovedo, Ray Obiedo,Charlie Musselwhite, Henry Butler, Long John Baldry, Chris Cain, Bonnie Hayes,Duke Robillard,Betty LaVette,RAD, Johnny Hiland, and most recently, a 2 year stint with guitar God Robben Ford. In 1992 Dewayne released the highly acclaimed instructional video entitled---” The Art Of Tapping” by Video Progressions, and just released his first solo CD entitled “Melting Pot” with special guests--Robben Ford, Dennis Chambers, Andy Narell, Marc Russo, and Johnny Hiland

I went to the 2/6 show in Harrisburg, Pa., in the tiny "Sunoco Performance Theater." Very Happy

I was (and still am) battling a monster cold that came on around the first of the month, so I wasn't feeling my best. Crying or Very sad

I pretty much concur with Bigpix's comments on the show; Ruthie is a real treat! Jorma is an acoustic master nonpareil.

Robben was in great form/voice as usual (but after seeing him in Annapolis last fall, I don't think he'll ever be able to top THAT performance.)

For me, the best part was when the three artists performed in ensemble.

I absolutely LOVE to hear Robben playing in an accompanying role! It's hard to imagine that there is any better rhythm guitarist than RF. Shocked

It was well worth the drive. Cool

Ok, so it's been 3 weeks ago today that I saw the Jorma, Robben, & Ruthie show. Sorry I took so long to write about it, but the more reviews I've read in here from previous and subsequent shows, it almost seemed pointless to reiterate what others have already expressed (and so very well!). Yes, Ruthie (a total stranger to me) came out and just totally blew me away, not only with her great, strong voice, but also her mastery of the guitar. Jorma's solo acoustic set was very slow and mellow, but interesting, as he finger-picked like no other I've seen. Next, Robben and band came out and kicked ass. I've never seen Robben playing such innovative and fired up licks, and so many so long. I wish I could remember the Blue Line song they played, but Robben really scorched more than once on that tune. Oh, and he started out with the Tele, but in mid-song about halfway through the set, he switched over to the gold top. And, during the switch-over in which Robben took time to tune it, Dewayne performed a masterful bass solo. It was obviously unrehearsed and unplanned, and he put on such a show that had Robben smiling. What was really cool was Ruthie joining Robben and the band playing the keys and of course, displaying her beautiful voice. And then came the icing on the cake- Jorma and Robben and band doing an "electric" bunch of tunes in which Robben and Jorma traded many incredibly tasty licks. For someone who did slow, finger-picking style tunes earlier, Jorma was surprisingly impressive trading licks and rythm with Robben. I've never seen Robben smile and having so much fun. I found myself smiling a lot too!

Lastly, there was the after-show signing. I brought the cd liner notes from Tiger Walk, and when I presented it to Robben, his eyes lit up and with a huge smile said, "Oh, Tiger Walk! I have to sign it special for you! How do you spell JohnnyZ?!" We then chatted some small talk, and that was that.

What a great evening! Very Happy
