Recently i was scrolling through my extensive blues guitar collection on itunes and realized that i may never find a blues guitarist that i like more than robben ford! and i'm only 19. A lot has to do with personal taste, i know, but overall i think robben just blows other players out of the water. I am constantly looking for more inspirational electric blues guitar players to study, and recently i found a new favorite: matt schofield. i've checked out chris cain who is sometimes compared to robben... not a huge fan. I think what draws me to robben's playing is the conviction, passion and ridiculous precision that he utilizes...thats also what i like about matt schofield. I'm talking electric blues here, not players like george benson (who i love). any thoughts out there?

Jack

PS (please don't suggest mike bloomfield, jimi hendrix, buddy guy, b.b. king, Albert Collins, Albert King, Luther Allison, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, Joe Bonamassa, Freddie King, Johnny Lang, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Walter Trout, Kenny Wayne Shepard, John Mayer:) I like them all, dont worry! Smile

Check out Chris Duarte...from his first, Texas Sugar Strat Magik, to his latest, he's evolved from straight texas blues rock to much more. Catch him live if you really want to be blown away, he goes off into that blues/jazz/fusion quite a bit. Incredible musician - one of my faves.

You might dig Scott Henderson's blues-oriented stuff... Dog Party, Well To the Bone, Tore Down House

You can alaso check Mike Landau's latest live CD...
Also Carl Verheyen. Robben is featured on his latest CD.
In France, Jean-Marie Ecay has put out a couple of albums which are fusion oriented, but with a strong blues base.

By the way, I think there was quite a similar thread not that long ago by the way.

It's very cool to know that some 19 year olds like good blues, and appreciate real talent!

My 19 year old kid doesn't have the ear for the music I like, but she can paint and draw a lot better then me. It's good to know our own strengths and weaknesses.

Allen Hinds new CD "falling up" is very good. It's more jazz/blues with MUCHO feel, like RF and Landau's, Catchy melodies and songs. I got it about 3 or 4 months ago and it has been in constant rotation with my other favorites, so I have to recommend that disk.

the web sight www.pandora.com is a great find, with this sight you can build a radio station around your favorite artists. If you put in that you like Joe B or RF the sight will create a station around those players and you can get lots of ideas and recommendations through that. I have gotten a bunch of ideas from there.

Good luck to you!

Rob

Don't look any further, you're at your goal - you won't find any. I've tried too, really hard I tell you. There is no better.

Why would someone suggest any of those names...all but 2 are in completely different niches of the blues. I say all but 2 considering Robben's influence by Mike Bloomfield and BB. I've never really understood how Robben, Jonny Lang, Joe Bonamassa, and Kenny Wayne Shephard can be put in the same category...

Seems to me that you would have to slice and dice "the blues" into some awfully narrow categories to put those guys in completely different bags.

I don't know much of KWS's stuff (other than his reputation as something of an SRV clone), but I suspect that an awful lot of Robben fans also dig Lang and Bonamassa. Different styles, certainly, but it's all music to my ears.

Bingo.
Exactly.
Right on.
To the point.
You hit the nail on the head.
Ain't no flies on you.
'Nuff said.
