I was watching the Art of Blues Solos DVD and Robben mentions the sound Need Somebody from his album The Inside Story. I'd never heard of this album so I got it off of Amazon, and I am REALLY digging this stuff. I've never heard Robben play fusion and this is just really really cool stuff...just thought I'd share. _________________ "Music is the only thing that you can share with a million million people and you don't lose, you gain. Definitely a good album, and I know some long-time fans wish he'd do more in that vein. If you're looking for more along those lines, the recent Orbit disk (under the name Neil Larsen) is very, very good.
I enjoy RF's fusion playing a lot, but my favorites from Inside Story are actually the songs with vocals. |

Agreed, North Carolina is my favorite at this point. _________________ "Music is the only thing that you can share with a million million people and you don't lose, you gain. I love this album too. That's essentially the Yellowjackets you're listening to there. If you want more of the same, get the Yellowjackets first album (just called Yellowjackets) which is the same group of guys and Robben is all over it. It was re-released a few years ago with additional tracks which are demo versions of two the the songs. There are no vocals on this one, but it's a fantastic recording. _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

I got a copy of the original LP when it first came out and I passed it to a friend who in turn passed it on to someone else and so on. I never got it back. I even remember the scratches and skips LOL I did get a import CD a few years back it made me remember the first time I heard it. I was in a cabin after a backpacking trip in Kings Canyon, CA on a warm summer evening........... Lots of water under the bridge |
