I did a SEARCH and didn't see this addressed. Please excuse me if I missed it!
I was hoping Daved or someone else could clear this up:

In Mr. Ford's Dumbles - Is it true that they have a resistor instead of a choke in the power supply to induce more sag in the amp? This is a widely argued point on some other forums and decided to come to a source as opposed to continuing the "supposition train". Thank you in advance for your responses.

Is this an inappropriate subject for this board? If so, I'll ask to have the thread removed. I just thought that, unlike other forums, I could find out the real answer here. My apologies if I have made a faux pas.

Not an inappropriate question at all. I think Pierre was just suggesting you might be more likely to get an answer on Amp Garage.

Daved, Robben's guitar tech frequents the forum and is often able to provide or get answers regarding all kinds of stuff, either from personal knowledge or by asking Robben. So, he might be able to offer some insight on this one.

If I'm not mistaken, someone there who has had opportunity for close inspection stated it does have a choke.

Sorry, HellDuck, but I confess that I don't know... I've never had a reason to question it as that's more of an engineer's issue than a tech's problem. Wink
If I think of it next time I speak with Alexander, I'll ask.

Also, there are two amps and I assume they are identical but one never knows.
I know the newer one is serial #0148, never saw any info on the number of the other one, would be interesting. It seems the older one is used more often, it's usually the one in the pics I've seen.

This has been a debate/discussion that has been out there. Scott Lerner turned me on to this issue. When I had my first Xumble style amp built, I had both a choke and a resistor put in with a switch on the back so I could pick which one. I was told there was a noticable difference. To tell the god's honest truth, I can't tell the difference. The only difference was that the resistor made a little more noise. Therefore, I keep it swithced to the choke mode.

... any way, that's my 2 cents.
