I loved tonight's show at the 300-seat Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT. Infinity Hall is a very cool venue -- beautiful inside and out, great sound quality and intimate. A music lover's paradise.

Touring with Toss Panos (drums) and Andy Hess (bass), Robben played all 10 songs from the new album. The songs had so much life -- the mics were cranked and Robben's vocals were strong and soulful. Robben played a motherload of extended guitar solos, some that mimicked the sound of horns and B3 organ runs, as well as the bold, improvisational solos he is best known for. Nothin' to Nobody featured a bass solo. There was a drum solo before There'll Never Be Another You, and Toss' drumming on Supernatural was also highlighted. The newest original songs -- Earthquake and Thoughtless -- are amazing. Great lyrics and they hold so much music, perfectly crafted for improvisational creativity, as Robben demonstrated with finesse tonight.

I didn't go up to the stage and gawk, but I was only a few rows back from the front of the stage in the fairly small room, so it was all pretty clear from where I was sitting...

The Dumble and a blackface Super Reverb were both on stage. He was switching between the Taku Sakashta guitar (er, the one on the cover of Truth) and his Tele.

First time I've ever seen Robben, and it was indeed an amazing show!
I really liked Andy Hess's bass work, surprisingly, more than I do Travis Carlton's work on the new record. Toss is excellent, and the whole band and show was inspiring to say the least. Other than everyone sitting down...it seems to be common for shows in CT. Ah well.

I have to say, I'll never forget Robben breaking in the middle of a low-key solo (Moonchild Blues?) to literally 'shhh' the rhythm section, as they were cooking a bit more intensely than he wanted at that particular molment, it seemed. Classic band dynamics.
