Can you please share some info about compressors:
Carl Martin V Electro Harmonix's Black Finger (valve).
Which is better and why, or is there something better (floor pedal) than this two.

Very interesting idea! I wonder how it sounds in real situation. I've got very nice amp (PEDALTONE) by Dolf Koch and I'm trying to get the best pedal compressor with no tone change.

As it turns out I don't use compression very often but I did spring for the aNaLoG.MaN "Bi-CompROSSor COMBO unit." At the time I ordered it there was an "8 week wait" so I got on the waiting list - about 6 months later, after I had nearly forgotten all about it, I got an email saying they were available. Once available delivery was really quick. This does everything claimed plus it is SHOCKINGLY quiet! I have an old MXR DynaComp (ca. 1977) and this things simply kills it (can eBay be far away for the old MXR?). Another unit that gets raves, although I have never used one, only heard demos, is the Robert Keely unit:

Compresson is usually the last thing I want in my guitar amp. The art is getting a smooth overdrive and still maintain the dynamics, a la Robben.

That said, I have played through a friends more effected rig with a Carl Martin unit and it played real nice. Still responded to tone production (varying the sound wth the right hand). Garth shows one in his setup and he doesn't hurt for dynamics, so whatever settings he uses works.

I do have a DBX 160X in my bass rig. It is great. Not only adds punch and knocks off the peaks, but oddly adds life and sparkle to the sound. The guy who plays guitar for Lydia Pense has one hooked up to his Boogie. I asked him about it and he said the same thing, he doesn't use much compression but it sounds better with it in the chain.

So, I got long winded and my last attempt at this post and was timed out. Probably for the better. Maybe that's the best "moderation." Anyway, if you're a guitarist, chances are if you have the right opportunity and gear, like Robben, your compression is happening in your amp and you don't really have much use for a compression pedal. A lot of country guys like compression because they're after a really, really clean sound with the compressed sound of a pushed amp. To my ear Danny Gatton not only had his amp cranked but the sound was additionally compressed to the max either in the studio or with a pedal - Danny Gatton experts are welcome to correct or advise me. Every player I know of during the late '70s and early '80s had a DynaComp or realtively inexpensive dbx rack unit as part of their outboard gear. Pat Metheney anyone? IMHO compression generally is overdone and has a tendency to suck the life out of stuff. On the other hand, when recording, judicious use of compression is always warranted but usually what happens is a mastering engineer applies just enough to make a great performance a bit more lifeless. So I'm ranting.

The only effect I have used for years is an old Boss CS-2 compressor sustain pedal. I started using one when I was playing country and was listening to Albert Lee and James Burton, etc. The CS-2 really smooths out the chicken picking (especially when I use pick and fingers simultaneously for banjo-type rolls) and I also use it to add a little boost for solos in general. Depending on the amp I may use a lot or a little. It is not the quietest pedal on the block but it works for me. I also use it for slide - for a Lowell George/Little Feat sound - it lets me play at lower volumes but still get the sustain I crave.
