Hey superreverb2,

I see form your signature that you have Jim Rolph p'ups in your guitars.

I've tried to deal with the guy, but he wouldn't release any info at all 'bout his p'ups, didn't answer any of my questions and didn't even asked me what kind of tone I was after. The deal was send me $$$$ and I send you some p'ups.

I didn't like the attitude, so I just bought Seymour Duncans for my two guitars, a '59b for the neck and a Custom 5 for the bridge in my 1975 MIJ Emperador 335 copy and a Jazz set for my 1980 MIJ Vantage Les Paul Custom copy and I'm quite satisfied with the outcome.

How was your experience with the guy? If you don't mind sharing your thoughts, of course!

Greg Fessler (Fender US Custom Shop Masterbuilder) will build any model of the RF guitars for a whopping price of $9000.00 MSRP/MAP, and John Carruthers (co creator of the original RF guitar) currently builds his version of the RF guitar for $5995.00

If I had that kind of money to pour in a Custom guitar, I'd get the Sakashta NouPaul Robben uses:

Yummy!

Hi:

Yeah, he was a little reluctant at first to release any info, but once we talked for a bit he seemed fine. I did all my communication with him over the phone so maybe that helped "open" things up a bit. He is very protective of what he does and how he does it though.
The pickups that are now in my Heritage LP are the same ones he makes for Taku Sakashta, and are the same one that are currently in RF's Sakashta guitar. Interestingly enough, he builds them so the bridge pickup is installed in the neck and the neck is installed in the bridge. Don't know what he does to do that, but all I know is that they are currently the BEST pickups that have ever been in that guitar, and absolutely KILLED the set of Wolfetone Dr Vintage that were previously in there. They are his 59's and they REALLY nail the RF type tone I was after. His North Up (magnetic direction) 60 Strat pickups are amazing as well.

once you get the guitar and that style of amp then your pretty much in the ball park for the blue line tone!

As I found out myself - but 90% of the sound is still in the fingers but that 10% is the satsfying and fun part :-)
