Wow what a great show at the Kuumbua in Santa Cruz. Both shows sold out.Alot of new songs Robben and the band where having a great time no pictures or flash problems.(before band got on stage we were asked to not take pictures or record)I wasnt a Big fan of Landau, saw him with Robben at Yoshis last year.Im a fan now,had some very bluesey vibes going on.If this show comes around your area I would make a point to see it.One of the best shows I seen. |

Thanks for the show reviews. I'm looking forward to hearing the band's CD when it's released. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

I saw the early show at Yoshi's last night. There were a couple of minor disappointments. The guys came out of the gate seemingly a bit out of synch; Landau's first solo seemed like he was fighting to squeeze notes out his guitar and wasn't quite feeling the music (the first tune was Robben's "Just Like It Is" from Tiger Walk), while Robben seemed way under-represented in the mix. It picked up from there, however, and they locked in well. Both Robben and Mike Landau sang but neither was in very good voice. And the new songs were OK but none of them really stood out to me.
Aside from those minor quibbles, there was lots of really great playing by both Robben and Landau, both in very fine form (with the exception of the opening tune). Aside from the several new tunes, they played another from Tiger Walk, "Oasis," and "Spoonful" and the Jimmy Reed medley that appeared on Soul On Ten last summer.
Haslip and Novak were both great and contributed solos in "Oasis" and "Spoonful." |
