Road trip to see two of the coolest Guitar players of all time!
All "Trial by fire" music and it's rocking good stuff, also a few solo Ford and Landau's "underwear". "Trial By Fire" sounds like it's going to be a fantastic rocking mix of both players, vocally and guitar. Robben was very generous with the spotlight, it was on ML most of the night, but RF ripped when it was his turn.
The sound was perfect as usual with these guys, the first 'sell out' for this club the compound grill. It was a packed house, a mix of doctors and musicians i think. We got a good reserved table that i reserved about 3 weeks ago, good food and drink and very cool staff.
This trip was worth every penny, it was really a priceless adventure for me because these are two of my all time favorites.
You guys up north are in for a fantastic musical journey with these two, don't miss out.

The final song of the night was "spoonful" and man was it good. RF said the new CD would be out in March. My wish is that they record a DVD at Yoshi's and package it all together, now that would be cool! |

That would be great - especially for those of us who can't quite fit a trip to the West Coast into the budget right now! I hope someone is listening!

It was a little pricey but we split it 3 ways, motel room and gas. The drive is about 5 1/2 hours, the show tickets were $27.
Food and beer was about the same as if I saw them in my town.
I don't know why they don't put a few video cameras around Yoshi's and give the people what they want. A DVD sample of 5 songs? how hard is that?

Below is an e-mail I sent to a friend. I was at the Phoenix show as well and agree with the OP. GREAT show!
Hi Scott! Robben and the whole band were on fire. Michael Landau was a nice
contrast to Robben. He was Stratocaster all night. He did a ton of parts,
(keyboard stuff) and was more of a shredder than Robben. Great tone and licks.
Robben played his '60 Tele and a sunburst 335 that I've never seen him play
before. He switched between an old Super Reverb and his early '80's Dumble
Overdrive. His tone was pristine. He played with a clean tone a lot. VERY nice
with the Reverb from the Super. He had a touch of delay from his TC Elec. rack
unit into the Dumble.
They played the new Trial By Fire material and it flat out rocked! The vocals
were on. Of course Gary Novak (drums) and Jimmy Haslip (bass) were killer.
That is a nice venue. I'll be checking the website for more gigs there. It's
right on the freeway, easy to get to, and the sound was stellar.
Too bad you missed it. I am glad for Robben that is sold out.

Very cool Badronald, thanks.
I had a table in the back so I couldnt see very well, but I could hear perfectly. That was a great club, and hearing that it sold out was awesome for everyone. |
