Loved it David!

That tone is the best Dumble tone I have heard, together with Robben's actual Dumble of course.

Hey Pierre, do you still have your fuchs ods? If you do could you please tell me how does it compare to this tone from the clip? Also what ods version have you got (i.e. slx) and what valves? As much info as possible would be much appreciated as I am looking to buy one in a couple of weeks time Smile

cheers,

DD

Hi DD.
Yes I still have my Fuchs ODS, and indeed it's an (early) SLX version. It has 2 6L6.
From what I hear in this clip, it seems to be warmer and grittier than my Fuchs, also more dynamic, but you can get a tone in the ballpark with the Fuchs I think (with the standard SLX model, not the HRM, as the Bludo is based on a non HRM amp).
The thing with the Fuchs is that you have to tweak quite a bit and have the right chain of components along with amp itself; guitar/pickups - cab/speakers - tubes...and also you have to adapt the playing. It can take some time to find the right combination, I know some people felt disappointed with the amp at first.
What worked for me :
- Use a guitar with PAF like pickups (335 like for me, but you can get good tones with a Strat also, with differents settings)
- Tung Sol 6L6 matched tubes ; if you change the power tubes don't forget to set the bias correctly, I had huge differences between some pairs of tubes)
- Tried a few 12AX7 before finding the right combination (I don't remember exactly what I endend using though...you have to remove the chassis every time, that can be a pain too...)
- Use a reverse polarity speaker cable between amp and cab
- Set the loop to series, and either put a long cable from from out to in, or two cables if you use an effect in the loop ( I use a TC Nova Delay), then set the input volume to about 1/4, and use the output as a master volume; I have just received a Suhr Minimix that I am going to use with the TC Nova in the loop so that the signal is not degraded by going through the effect
- The amp real master should be at least at noon to get the best tone, hence the use of the loop as an added master volume to tame the amp. I also use a Marshall SE100 to attenuate the volume.
-Set input gain not to high (about 12 o'clock)
-Set the internal OD trimmer to taste, but not too high so the tone does not get fizzy...
- Don't hesitate to use the Accent knob, it can restore some high frequencies content to the tone, without getting harsh
- My fave speaker is a EVM 12L in a 1x12 box. I also use a 2x12 with vintage G12-65s, but I definitely prefer the EVM.

If I had to buy another one today, I also would get a 100W version instead of a 50W, both for clean headroom and girth. But if I could afford it the Bludo would be my first choice.

Hope it does not sound like too much tweaking (well it actually is...I wish I could get to to that point easier...)...really the best thing is to try the amp at first.
Sorry also to David for the thread hijacking Smile

Hi Pierre,

many thanks for your reply, and yes, sorry David for high jacking the thread Embarassed Pierre, I'll start another thread I think.

Actually David you may be able to help, I looked the Bludo website and I cannot find the Ojai on there. I will have to email them my questions, but for now, do you know if the Ojai is readily available and do they ship to the UK?

All the best,

DD

Hi David,

just checked out your other ojai based tunes, and the tone is fantastic! I think your playing has improved too!

Just out of interest, whats your take on the Fuchs ODS amp?

Cheers,

DD

For what it's worth, I have inquired about the price of the amp, it starts at 3525$ (extras can be added) , loop o lator is 525$, it can be built in 230V, wait time is actually 17 months...
