Hey Daved, thanks for all the great details you bring to all the fans world wide...anyway i was speaking with you at the Bottom Line in N.Y.C. over the summer (what a show!)and at that time RF was tring different p/u's in his black baker...one was a proto-type duncan red/black zebra colored thing ...what was that? is it still in play?
also what is he using at this point, any new break throughs on the p/u front in relationship to the Baker,i just loved that tone...wow!...thanks Andy

The red/black pickup is a Duncan Pearly Gates. He's still using it but with a gold cover.

After the Full Shred story, I remember reading a Seymour Duncan newletter in which Robben was credited for using a PG in the neck and a 59b in the bridge.

I always found the 59b a bit too thin. I am amazed how Robben gets such a thick tone on with it, especially on the high strings.

I have recently bought a set of Seth Lover pickups and bridge pickups does a better job in mimicking the Robben sound than the 59. However, it can onlu handle so much gain. I should try the PG bridge if I have the chance.

I do remember talking to you before. Nice to hear from you again. I haven't had the Ultra repaired because after talking with Gene, and a few other people, it seems the only way to repair it properly would be to remove the fingerboard, which would mean new frets and nut, and the "custom finish" on the back of the neck would be gone. In other words, it wouldn't be Robben's guitar anymore. It is still playable though, and is the best sounding RF guitar I have ever played.
