25 year old guitarist and pianist from Slovenia here. Been following Robbens work for 2 years now (yes, I discovered him a bit late) and I am always impressed with his playing and writing. I'm trying hard to get his style down, but it is the sheer volume of his chordal and soloing knowledge that keeps me constantly pushing the limits of my playing abilities.

I've been to two of his concerts so far. in Graz and Ljubljana, but he does not play often in these parts of Europe. In Ljubljana I was lucky enough to be in the first row (and experience the oomph of his Overdrive Special) and during one of his songs (I think it was Lateral Climb, don't quite remember) he came to the edge of the stage and put his pick in my hand. I'll never forget that moment. After the concert he also signed a pickguard I'd brought with me.

I hope to someday save up enough money to visit one of his clinics in the US. But for now, DVDs and books on his style are enough to keep me busy.

Here's two clips of my playing from youtube -

A recent one (a study on his Texas shuffle style soloing; it's played on an Epiphone, I don't own a Fender Elite... yet):

And most of the Revelation solo (played on an Ibanez - devout fans, forgive me Very Happy ; I've also learned the keyboards' part, but I haven't recorded that yet):

It's all played over backing tracks (I hate it when people play over original recordings and everything sounds better because of the two sounds meshing together!).

Since there are many people on this forum who know much more about his style - comments and suggestions are welcome!

Oh - and recently I've started playing alto sax, just to get the grasp of some of the phrasing and feel ideas that Robben's picked up by playing a wind instrument.

Greets to you all, it's a great forum with so much info, it's gonna take me a week just to get through all of it Laughing

Hi Zingy,
Welcome to the site! I'm at work right now so I can't watch the clips, but I will. You are so lucky to have seen Robben in concert. I live in the southern US and Robben almost never comes this way so I have only seen him live at a couple of short workshops. But we're glad to have you here. I've tried to pick up keyboard, too, but it's very hard to do on your own. Hope you enjoy your time here,
Frank
