" Keep on Running ". Finally. I've had trouble finding this CD, but Santa knew how badly I wanted it and it was under the tree this morning. I'm probably the last person here to own this, but better late than never.
I've listened to the whole CD twice today and I like it very much. One of my first impressions is how strong Robben's vocals sound on this CD. I think his voice sounds the best yet on this CD.
I also really like the 2 blues songs, "Lifetime Thing " and "Me and my Woman ". Terrific nasty guitar licks and tone, and great vocals. I like it all and I'm sure it will really grow on me as I listen more. I even like "Badge" with those quirky background vocals.
Santa also brought me Joey DeFrancesco's newest release ( also on Concord ). God, I love the Hammond organ and the way Joey plays it.
Maybe someday there will be a collaboration between these two Concord label mates. That would be something.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of the great folks and music lovers here......................Fingerlakes |

Well that was awfully considerate of Santa! Good to know that he has such fine taste.
And i'll wish with you for a for a Joey/Robben collaboration.

Blue - if you like Joey D, check out the CDs he did with John McLaughlin. The Free Spirits live in Japan CD is fantastic (with Dennis Chambers on drums). Also, the one he did with Danny Gatton (the name escapes me) is well worth the bucks. |

I heard the Gatton/JD on the radio once and it was awesome but haven't been able to find one anywhere. I remember is was on the Muse label but can't remember the name either _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Thanks for the feedback. I had no idea Joey had recordings with Gatton and McLaughlin. I will search for these. The one with John McLaughlin sounds interesting. I agree that not all of John's stuff is worth buying, but the good stuff is very special. As an 18 yr old college freshman some friends from the music dept invited me to go with them to see The Mahvishnu Orchestra. This was a tour in support of their record ( yes vinyl at this point in time ) " The Inner Mounting Flame ". This was the band with John, Billy Cobham, and Jan Hammer. I had no idea what to expect, they just told me it would be something different than what I was used to. Talk about an eye opener !! " The Noonward Race " still goes through my head over 30 years later. |
