Very cool that you were the one to win the guitar - I contributed to that fundraiser, too. Great discusion board.

I find that using the vol knob controls the tone on teles better than the tone knob. (at least "better" for my ears). Rolling off the vol just a bit can dampen the ice from the bridge p/u and then you can always crank it back up when you need it!

Another tele trick to control the ice from the bridge is to crank up the amp louder than you wold normally use it, but again roll off the vol some. I find my teles have always sounded better if the amp is loud with the bridge p/u cut on the vol. This is kind of what Roy Buchanan always talked about - he would push the amp full and control things with his vol knob. I have been A/B ing some speakers and cabs and using my tele bridge p/u to see if they can handle the honk and fonk with the amp cranked. I am playing a country gig in a few monthds and am looking forward to making some hillbilly ears bleed!

When i asked Robben that question, I was asking specifically about the tone but he said, "Everything's full up." I thought at the time that he meant tone and volume, but it's possible he was just referring to the tone knob.

I am a telecaster guitar player two years ago now and I would like to say that three things are very important over the magical hands of Robben to achive a thick an brightness tone with a telecaster guitar (but for sur it's the same for the other brands).

First, the wood and crafting quality and global adjustement of the guitar.
Secondly, the pick-ups, some are thiner and brighter than other one.
And at last the speackers (if we consider that we still have a good amp).

We all know here that Robben's speacker choice always turn to Thick and few darker speackers as G12-65's and Tonker ...

This is something I experiment myself.

Robben never uses the tone and volume pots of his guitars, he even said that some of his guitars has the tone and volume disconected and that also why he prefere to use a volume pedale. It's more accurate and if this one is a good one helps you to keep the sound integrity.

Hi Mikka,
Robben had the tone and volume disconnected for a while on the Fender signature guitars, but he has had them fully operational on his guitars since then. But, I agree with you that he doesn't use them. He keeps them full on. He told me that himself.
