I can't believe he's only coming over for a clinic though. Does anybody have any news on some live dates?

Well, I've sold the shirt off my back for this but I can't wait (don't worry, I will be wearing some form of garment to cover my self up on the day Laughing )

I'm in my forties now and I can't remember feeling so excited about something, except when my two son's were born. It's a once in a lifetime event for me, so thanks for the link!

Anyone else from here going?

Cheers,

DD

I'll be going. Bit of a trek for me as I'll be traveling down from Manchester. Really excited I've been waiting for Robben to do a clinic in the UK for sometime - now its happening :-)

I've signed up in a brief moment of an over exgerated belief in my Guitar playing. I'm hoping that just being in the same room as Robben is going to magically transform my 6 string fumblings into Blues Nirvana..........some hope Sad

Really looking forward to it though (and I'm in my 50's, lol)

Does anyone know what we are supposed to bring along to the clinic in terms of equipment?

Just spoke to the nice Man at Peach and he says just bring a Guitar. If amplification is required Peach will provide it. From the sound of it the most likely scenario is that we will play unamplified. Fine by me........reduces the humiliation factor considerably Smile

Hi VanZapp,

good to have you on board, both here and at the clinic! Look forward to meeting you.

Just curious, did the guy at Peaches mention anything about meal/refreshment availability throughout the day?

Btw, I feel much the same as yourself with respect to my ability when in the presense of Robben (and probably some other very accomplished guitarists), but hey, I'm not out for anything except having a very enjoyable day. Reading my post above does make me seem a little over zealous. I do infact have a life with other exciting things going on, however, this is definetly something special and I feel privileged to be taking part Smile

Cheers,

DD

Hi DD, Thanks for the welcome Smile I was begining to think the place was deserted, lol. Looking forward to meeting you too, as well as any other Members of this Forum.

Food......ah yes he did mention that Tea/coffee etc would be available at Peaches and that meals (i.e. midday an/or evening) would be available at a pub round the corner. Whether this is provided or 'fend for ourselves' I'm not quite sure. I think Mrs VanZapp might pack me a bite to eat just in case.....She's like that bless her.

I have very similar feelings about the day as you DD. It feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in something very special.

Thought I'd post a quick line on the day at Peach Guitars.

What a day! Fantastic. Enjoyed every minute.

Robben was in fine form. He seemed happy to talk about anything and everything. He covered some music theory....not what I'd call basic but then I'm a musical idiot, and to be fair he did break it down so even my limited understandings were catered for. One thing that stood out for me was the use of the diminished scale and its place in Blues playing. Now all I've got to do is practice the damn thing to make it part of my playing. We were all given some material that covered a few chord progressions and voicings.

He talked about gear, his early career, song writing and his approach to it. He performed a few solo pieces (playing and singing). And at the end of the day was only too happy to jam with a couple of guys and stick around to sign autographs and have pictures taken for anyone that wanted them.

Another interesting thing to note was that even though Robben was playing through borrowed amps (Fender Deluxe's) and a borrowed Guitar (an SVL Tele style with what looked like mini humbuckers), he still sounded like himself. Underlining that it really is 'all in the hands'.

The Guys at Peach made us feel very welcome and provided tea and coffee. So many thanks all round to John Priest and his staff at Peach, Simon Law of SVL Guitars and of course Robben for a memorable day to cherrish for years to come.

Very cool. I'd love to be able to attend a clinic. I'm hoping he has a clinic in (or near, at least) Texas.

Thanks for the insight on Robben's UK clinic. Sounds like it was a great experience.
