Took lesson from Portland Jazz giant a few years ago who told me to learn "blues changes" section of Ted Greene's Chord chemistry in a few keys as a great starting point for playing jazzy blues. It's been very helpful.
Can anyone recommend some classic blues/jazz/swing chord voicings in this vein (not interested in chord changes, in voicings with walking basslines, subs, ect.)
Also found Triad section of Greene's book helpful where he diagrams every major triad then it's iv on the entire fretboard. Got me thinking more vertical on the fretboard RATHER than horizontal when fumbling for chords.

| I'll repost since no response. Looking for jazz/blues type backing chords to play to 12 bar blues...love the Ted Greene stuff and looking for more like that. |

Since you only mentioned Chord Chemistry, I assume you have not yet tapped the Goldmine, i.e www.tedgreene.com!

Thanks for the extra Ted Greene material. Until my fingers grow a few more inches, many of his grips are "beyond my grasp".
Was looking for a little more traditional Otis rush, Gatemouth brown, ect. jazzy blues progressions. |

I recommend Joe Pass DVD "Genius of Joe Pass" -- there are several blues number throughout with pretty good closeups, I've learned a lot from that. Compared to Ted Greene, JP plays much more compact voicings but with nice melodic and harmonic movement. It's more of jazz side of the blues but moves are applicaple to more tradional sounding blues. In fact Joe Pass has instructional DVD called "The Blue Side Of The Jazz". It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I think Joe Pass is underrated as blues player (if that is possible). |
