Hubert Sumlin passed away Sunday of heart failure. He had lost a lung to cancer in 2002 and had been on oxygen for quite some time. I got to meet him once several years ago and he was a beautiful soul.

And one hell of a guitar player. I never saw or met him, but was turned on to him via some compilation cds (Alligator or Blind Pig I think).
Somre really great, clean licks. Would've been a great live show.
RIP

My wife and I went to see Eddie Shaw and the Wolf Gang Sunday night. (BTW, Eddie's son, Eddie "Vaan" Shaw Jr., is a mofo on guitar.)

Eddie announced Sumlin's passing from the stage just after going on. He started to say something about him, but got choked up and started playing his horn instead.

Good show. The band cooked -- I'm sure Hubert would have approved.

I've been fortunate enough to have seen Hubert play 2 times, it's very sad to see him go...

I've seen him in the 2010 Crossroads Festival's video.

His playing was then already hindered, so I knew it was just a matter of time.
