Man...I just cannot decide! I am all over the place!
Help!
Using...
Blackface amp.
Barber SF
or
TS9 Silver Mod
a little delay
...tell me what you like and why. Wish I could play them all side-by-side, but...that won't likely happen.
Have a nice offer of an Ibanez AS200, but I'm thinking that'll be too similar to the AS103 that have. Still an option.
Feel free to espouse your opinion.

Its a shame you don't live in the UK Jbear because I'm selling my 359. These small bodied semi's from Gibson are great Guitars. 335's can feel a bit big especially played standing up but the 336, 339, 359 are more like Les Paul size but without the weight.....and no sacrifice to tone. The 359 comes with Classic 57 HB and they are real tone pups with punch and drive to spare.

So if you get the chance give any of these a try.....
My reason for selling? I'm really a Fender Guy who wanted to try something totally different. Oh and Robben took the time to have a closer look at mine at a recent Clinic and seemed to really like it. Smile

Thanks for the response. I do love the 335, but it's almost too dark for me at times. I have a really nice offer of an Ibanez AS200 that might be the ticket, but right now if I was offered a 339 at the right price...I think that'd be the one. I have an AS103 with SD 59's that is a fantastic guitar, but it is all maple and and almost more of a 336 sound because the center block is pretty big. It's a bit of a hybrid between a 335 and a 336. More hollow than the 6...less hollow than the 5.
Nice choices to have to make : )

I can't afford a real 339, so I'm waiting for the Epi 339 to hit Europe to get one.

I have two 335 copies, my #1 is a 1980 MIJ all-maple and a 1981 MIK mahogany neck and maple body. Non of them seem "dark"... on the contrary, the MIK is particulary bright and snappy. Even with A2 p'ups (Seth Lover set) it cuts throught the mix like a knife in butter! ;)

Just get your self a nice re-issue 335. If you don't yet have one you'll need one!

339 it is...59 neck profile (which actually does sound different than the 30/60)! I played a bunch of stuff and as I heard it, the 339 did everything thing that the 335 did and had a wider tonal palette. I could do the Esprit sound and the 335 sound. It has its own flavor, but I was really impressed at how it could swing through the jazzy stuff and still cut through overdriven. I don't do heavy distortion, so...can't comment on that sound.
Anyway...I'll get back after I'd had a while to play and be more objective. Biggest surprise was how woody and "big" it was able to sound through the neck through a Twin. Was not much difference side-by-side with the 335 Dot. Also the sound with the different necks...didn't think I'd be able to hear it.
So far...seems like a good decision.

Not sure how helpful this is - my main axe is a 137 Classic - quite a chunky neck but it feels great to play - I had it re-fretted with jumbo frets and swapped the pickups for some Harmonic Design humbuckers - having said that I've not spent any real time playing with any of the others so can't really compare it.
