I'd still like to pick up a Zendrive if one comes up at a good price, but at the moment it would have to almost be a give away! I was at a seminar Robben gave in Purchase, NY a couple of years ago. When he kicked in the zendrive, it was a definite but subtle difference. There wasn't this great burst of distorted tone - it was like the tone just got more defined and emphatic; if that makes sense. It was the same tone - only more so. I've been trying to get that ever since. I don't want a tone that screams out "HEY, I JUST STEPPED ON THIS PEDAL!". I want a tone that just steps out and catches your attention a little more - that says "Listen, there's something special going on." Does that make sense?
I've been using three pedals together with the gain turned almost all the way down and the tone on each set to a little different range, with a compressor after them. I use a loop pedal to bring everything in at once, so I don't have to do the stompbox dance. That's close, but not quite there. |

Have you tried any of the Fuchs pedals Frank? I have a Plush Drive (Kinda medium gain) which has definate Dumble overtones to it. There is also a Cream Drive which seems to have a bit more gain. There's always a few of these on Fleabay... |

With that price and the very restrictive return policy - you don't have to worry about me getting one! Besides all that, the setup I've got is working pretty well for me. Still, that Fuchs Plush sounds interesting. If I could sell a couple of pedals... |

Nothing specific, but for those who are trying to follow in Robben's footsteps, it might be wise to hold off a while before ordering the Dumkudo.

If you want the Dumble sound, the Dumkudo is going to get you the closest to the real thing. I have a Dumble modified Super Reverb, and I've played through a dozen of Henry Kaiser's comparing the Dumkudo to the amp overdrive in the Dumble and it captures that vibe very well.
The cost has more to do with the exchange rate than anything else. When they first hit the USA a few years ago they were only about $240.00 when the US dollar had more value against the Japanese Yen.
