Cool pics. Interesting to see the SG is there as his backup guitar. I would have thought he'd have picked something more similar to the Epiphone.

The last set they played for the night was pretty relaxed, there were maybe 50 people in the club, so a few of the guys felt comfortable trying to get Robben to play the SG Razz It didn't happen, though I would've liked to hear how it sounded!

Nice to see the Epi and the SG, but it appears the Tele is on the outs. Over the last 15 years or so, when I began going to his gigs, he would usually start out with his 'new' axe (Baker, Sakashta, ES335, LP, etc.), then he would finish with the glory of the Tele. Like a fine fireworks show...saving the best for last.
I wonder if he has 'worn out' the Tele like he did the Esprit. It's the first time I've seen him without it.

Sorry for the mellow-drama, but I'll miss the Tele, if indeed it's retired.

Well, I have read a few interviews he's done for the release of the CD, and the Tele is mentioned as being his #1 guitar...

I'll bet the Tele is just taking a well deserved break for awhile and will be back when the music calls for it.

+1, I think the Epiphone sounds great for the music Robben's playing right now and the sound he's going for. This record is a little more low-gain than those from the last couple years, the semi-hollowbody suits the songs well.

Yea, you guys are probably right. Just surprised to see it missing.
I really never got the concept of 'wearing out' a guitar. I guess it was Robben's way of moving to a new sound.
Still, wouldn't you love to see him come out one day playing that old Esprit for a few tunes??
I would.

There's a definitely such a thing as wearing a guitar out. As far as I know, it's an issue with the frets, as there's only so many times a neck can handle a refretting.
And I don't think it would feel right to see Robben play the Esprit if he didn't have his hair in a shiny greased back ponytail Wink

A friend of mine had his strat refretted several times and finally had to get a new neck because it wouldn't take another fret job. That wouldn't be practical on a set neck guitar.
