Cool John Mayer, in the February 2004 issue of Guitar Player magazine:

"Another guy I love is Robben Ford. He figured out how to play blues and jazz at the same time withouth alienating either side. His playing reminds me of a skateboarder on the edge of a pipe -- he'll just hang on a note."

I just knew there was a reason my two daughters (25 and 22) just love this Mayer guy.

I was going to post the quote too, it was interesting to read that, I have not really heard any music from John Mayer though, I just know that he is a Berklee alumni and that he plays a vintage Strat through Dumbles.

Great songwriter and complete musician. He did a lot of the tracks and production on his first release. Guitar playing is understated in support of the songs. Think of an A list session guy (Tedesco, Carlton, Jorgensen, Ford) just doing tasty comps. One sone has a Robbenish little single line part in it. Now I know why.

yep, he uses a Dumble Overdrive Special. He's probably a Robben freak like the rest of us.

Never heard him but read the article in GP. Maybe I should check him out...

If he is a Robben freak, he should have Robben make a guest appearance on one of his tunes and Robben should do a tune with John on his next CD.

It would give John credibility as a guitarist. Something he apparently wants. It would give Robben huge exposure to a new very large audience.

Huge win win for both artists!

I've never heard of the guy.

Do I have to wipe the dust off my TV set and watch MTV to find out who he is?

What kind of music does he do?

Just the other day I was admiring the flame on the top of my sunburst 335 and said "Your body is a wonderland" Laughing

Mayer was sitting in with Letterman's Late Night Band last night.Too bad we in tv land can only hear only hear snippets in and out of commercials. He seemed to be playing more blues based stuff then on his ACL appearance. What i did hear sounded real good,he plays with alot of intensity and focus.

John made an appearance at the Macworld Keynote address by Steve Jobs to introduce new software called Garageband. (its excellent, by the way, but that's another post). So John came out with his guitar and played some blues along with a progression laid down using this software and it was really tasty. It made me want to check out more of his music. I just may get his newest release after I listen the samples some more.
