I'm looking forward to Saturday's late show at Yoshi's. It'll be my first time seeing Robben. I've been wanting to ask if I can get my tele pickguard signed, but I don't want to bother Robben. I mentioned I was going to a few of my friends, and now we have a small group going! I'm jazzed, Japanese food then experiencing a world-class guitarist, all in one night!

Saturday late may be kind of hectic but I've usually found Robben to be very congenial about signing things. The first thing he signed for me was the truss cover of my original '84 Esprit. I took it off the guitar and brought a paint pen for him to use. Since then, I've seen lots of folks bring the whole guitar in. Bring your own sharpie and be patient and nice. Anyone standing around with a guitar after the show is pretty self evident what they are waiting for.

Robben is a most gracious and generous man, extremley accomodating to his fans; unless there is extenuating circumstance, he will probably be happy to sign it for you. Have a good time; hope to see you there.

| I brought my Strat in a gig bag to Yoshi's several years ago. I arrived early on an off-night and bumped into Robben who had just finished dinner in the restaurant and was walking back to the backstage area. I went up to him and asked him to sign it for me. He thought about it for two seconds and then said "maybe after the show." I waited around after the show and was having some second thoughts about bothering Robben because there was a throng of people gathered with albums, pictures, etc. for him to sign. Robben saw me from half-way across the room and shouted "Where's your guitar?" I looked kind of embarassed, so he shouted "well, get it out!" I was grateful that he kind of prodded me. Then, he put my guitar on his knee and signed his name in HUGE letters across the face. I was half-way thinking about asking him to sign the back of the headstock, but given the circumstances, I thought it best to let him decide where to sign. Fortunately, his signature is very artistic and it came out GREAT! I have since had a guitar shop spray over the signature with a clear sealer so it is protected and won't run. It was a memorable experience, and I am glad I went for it. Robben was gracious, and now I'll never part with my Strat as it is one of my prized possessions. |
