Some of you who may have attended both shows last night might possibly have noticed that Bob Malach was not there during the second set.
Bob has had to take a leave of absence from the tour to fly back home to NY and deal with a family emergency. Our sympathies and support go with him. He will be returning and hopes to be back in time to pick back up with the NW shows.
John Burr will cover for him on keys for the last Yoshi's shows tonight and then at the Petaluma show. But he is then commited to another gig and will not be available after that.
Robben is thinking of going just as a 3 piece with Hilary & Dewayne till Bob returns, though he is looking to see if there are any other "guests" available to temporarily fill in. _________________ B C-ing U!

Line forms to the right, bring the brass
Seriously though, Dave Mathews? Joe Heinman? Second guitar, Garth? Wedemeyer? Sax, Danny Hull? If TOP isn't busy, Tom Politzer? I played 'Dance with Me' with Tom once and not only did he know the riff, he has this telepathic way of locking together with phrasing. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

My wife and I noticed instantly Bob and his wounderful sax sounds were gone.
I was going to ask Daved what was the deal but thought it might be too nosey.
Hope all is well for Bob and thanx Daved for the post and all the setlists. |

Man, us local boys don't even stand a chance
Actually I thought of a legitimate candidate, Endre Tarczy. Robben has played with him as a bass player, but Endre plays keys really well. He toured with Chris Cain as a keyboard player for something like a year before helping out when the bass player left.
Got to find some bay area person to keep Dewayne company _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

I know this may be unpopular: this commentary only reflects my personal tastes . . . I have heard Bob in contexts where he was stellar; I much preferred the B3 to the sax in the ensemble. That's probably because my brain is conditioned to loving the"classic" combo - I was "brought up" listening to guitar, bass, drums and B3. I know I am not alone in that. Let Bob lead a horn section, which in live performance is conspicuously absent in Robben's "Keep On Runnin' " material. Hoping fans will "fill in the gaps" works to a degree and Robben's guitar representations of horn sections are great but recognized as such by people who understand what he is doing - how many people can do that? New fans? What are they to think? If you had only heard the CD "Keep On Runnin' " and were not particicularly musically sophisticated but loved the CD would you miss or not miss the fact that the horns are not there? Old fans, well, the choir of the faithful will be with him probably until they drop dead, myself included. We need more new Robben fans. Easy for me to say (not really).
Cheers! _________________ iamthewalrus

...and I think it goes without saying that I would gladly volunteer myself for backup vocals, French translation, laundry, getting in the way, groveling, or any other need that might arise...I'm mediocre, available, and free!
By the way walrus, I like having the sax AND the B3, but I am a greedy little so-and-so!
