Hi there,
Does anyone agree that this is quite simply one of the most stunning and sublime tracks ever? It's just perfect. It's dreamy, lyrical and quite beautifully executed. It's as if Robben has gone off into that place that all great musicians go to (Eric goes there often during long solos) and has tapped into the Source, because the 'words' spoken through his guitar literally send me off into quite an extraordinary inner landscape.
I often have to lay down after listening to it, I seem unable to play any other song for quite a length of time. It moves me, stills me, I see explosions of vivid colour in my mind during it and I feel fortunate to have heard the song, it just goes to show that you don't need a screaming guitar solo to grab the listener's attention ... Mystic Mile speaks for itself.
All the best,

Hi there Kirk,
I reckon live it could be quite amazing, rather like Double Trouble that Eric Clapton plays on his One More Night album, going off as it does into quite spiritual territory. The final few seconds where Robben is closing down the song is quite astonishing and I can often be found, alone in my bedroom with my air guitar imagining I am the great man himself replete with all the usual facial mannerisms. I then take off the air guitar, hang it up and bow to my expectant audience.

I also feel Mystic Mile is an excellent track. In fact, he HAS played it live. I believe the Blue Line played the Fillmore West in '94, double-billed with John Lee Hooker, and I also believe it was radio-simulcast. I have a fairly poor-quality recording of it, and Mystic Mile is in the set, and it is stunning. Anyone have any info regarding this show? |

Mystic Mile is one of my favorites. In fact, that CD has been in my player a lot in the last month or so. Besides loving the title song, Robben's sensual solo on Worried Life Blues gets me every time.
That show at the Fillmore West (94? 95?) which John Lee Hooker opened (ugh) was astounding! The heavens were playing through Robben that nite. Politician blasted through the time/space continuum to some place entirely different than life as we know it.
GEEZ! Wouldn't it be GREAT to have a legit CD / DVD of that astounding show which we could purchase? There have been so many shows at the Fillmore that just kicked ass. The Tiger Walk show included. It was broadcast through KFOG and I have a tape of it, but would love to purchase a CD with the station breaks cut out. |

Johnny Blues,
This is indeed a great track and I love the way you desccribe it. This morning I took a break from the anxiety that is tax preparation, closed my eyes and really listened to this tune and it is everything you say and then some.I think the influence that Miles has had on Robben is very evident throughout . I truly love this song. |
