I posted this as part of a reply to Daved, but thought it may make an interesting new topic -

Daved,

Does Robben ever write/record B-Sides specifically for any of his CD Single releases ? - lots of bands often release fantastic tunes as B-Sides that their fans appreciate, but maybe were not a good 'fit' for the Album release that they were possibly written/recorded for.

A, B-sides/Unreleased songs CD would be a great idea - a bit like Eric Johnson did with his recent Internet release 'Souvenir' which was a collection of songs written over the years, re-recorded and released as a 'treat' for the hardcore fanbase.

Robben must have loads of songs/ideas knocking about that never saw the light of commercial exposure - try and get him to consider an album of this nature please

Great idea! I love "Hangnail" by James Taylor, not listed on the list of songs. Any James Taylor fans out there that are also Robben fans?

yes, JT is cool, been into him since 'mud slide slim' - however over recent years/albums I believe he has got better and better, October ROad is one of my favourites

Have you seen the "Live at the Beacon Theater" DVD? This a really good show and well worth watching ... especially "Shower the People" where one of the backing singers absolutely steals the show! Don't think much of the guitar player, tho' - definitely not Michael Landau!

is that from the Pullover Tour or another show - I saw a JT Show about a year ago on Performance Channel on cable, and I think its repeated every now and then, but since I switched from analogue to digital, this channel is no longer in our package Crying or Very sad

I have a recording from BBC R2 last year from the Mermaid Theatre London, which is quite a good show, but I dont think I have the Beacon theatre

I'm also a Robben&James fan. The DVDs "live at the Beacon theatre" and "Pull over" are great. BTW: do you know Robben did a song of James Taylor on "scetches of James". In the early 80ies Robben use to play this song live.

I saw JT at Red Rocks a couple of years ago. What a great show! Great writer, incredible singer and killer acoustic guitar player! His encore song was a solo version of "Sweet Baby James."

BTW, Robben should check out Red Rocks for a show this summer. It is the most amazing place to see a show. It's a natural amphitheater that sits right in the mountains just west of Golden, CO.. http://www.redrocksonline.com/05_photogallery/05_photogallery.html

Pat Metheny (another one of my all-time favorite guitar players) is also a big James Taylor fan. Besides writing a song named "James" for Taylor, Pat has said some really nice things about James' musicality on Pat's website (www.patmethenygroup.com). James really has a jazz and soul sensibility that infuses his songs: check out "O Suzannah" from "Sweet Baby James" for a jazz/soul/folk fusion from 1970! And I agree that "October Road" is some of the best work he has ever done. The man just keeps getting better and better (like Robben).

Wow! I'm so happy seeing all of these JT and RF fans! I agree with almost everything everyone has said. I will have to check out "The Beacon" DVD. I have the latest one and about all of his CDs. I see him every time he comes to Mountain View, California. I love him even though he has lost his hair and wears thick glasses. Ha! Of course, I haven't changed a bit over the years - NOT! Anyway, thanks everyone! And to all of you Europeans, I love your country and hope to get back there again. I haven't been there since 1969 with my folks. Hope you all pay us a visit, if you haven't already. Northern California and the SF Bay Area are beautiful! Cheers! Razz

Been a JT fan since "Rainy Day Man." (even longer than I have been a RF fanatic!) Excellence is never an accident! (It says that on the wall of my classroom, and it exemplifies itself in the talented artists we admire.)
