I was thrilled to find out today that Robben will be in my neck of the woods in late Feb and early March. After reading this on his website I confirmed with each venue.

2/28 Buffalo
2/29 Rochester
3/2 Albany

This news came at a good time as I've been reading Elizabeth's and Aeolian's great reviews and really wishing I was there. I will be going to the Buffalo show with my wife, and to Rochester with my son and his High School band and jazz band director. The Albany show is up in the air at this time, but hopefully I can attend that one as well. Please let me know here on the board or via PM if any other members here are planning to attend these shows and perhaps we can introduce ourselves face to face. It goes without saying that I am one happy camper.

Question ?

Does anyone know if Robben is coming East with the same band he is playing with in California ? If not who will he be touring with.

Baring any unexpected catastrophes, this is the band Robben plans on sticking with thruout the U.S. tour (Bob, Dewayne, and Buffy the vampire slayer... I mean, Hilary).

Welp, only three days till the Buffalo show at the Tralf. Charged with anticipation?... Damn right! WooHoo!!!

Can't remember right now who's opening/supporting the show. (Kinda like who cares, right?)

How long do Ford's shows typically run? Anyone?

1 hour & 40 minuts encore included, more if you're lucky enough to catch an X tra day.

Have a nice time. Blob Laughing

four4rock,

Look for me at The Tralf. I'll be the middle aged guy with a goatee probably holding hands with a beautiful woman. She's my wife and this will be our first night out without the kids in quite a while. Should be fun.

On Sunday in Rochester at Milestones I will be chaperoning 4 teenage musicians from our school jazz band and I'm also bringing a slew of people who are sure to be future Robben fans. Hope to see you there.

Hey, Saturday is my first time seeing Robben. So, yeah, I'm rather excited! Very Happy Can anybody describe the stage plot the band uses? What's the best viewing angle?... from the right, left or center? Sound is always great at the Tralf so, I'm not too concerned about that. But I wanna stake out a primo viewing angle.

And, fingerlakes, I'll keep my eyes peeled fer ya.... just don't stand in front of me!!!

Most of the times I saw Robben play he stands left of center. So for you the center will do great! As long as you stay away from the line of fire!! (I mean in front of the Dumble!) Robben usually plays loud!

Cool Just don't sit anyplace where you're at risk of taking a stick if Hillary loses one. This is one POWERHOUSE drummer. While I haven't seen her lose one yet, if she does it will go straight through your heart. They don't call her "Buffy" for nothing.

Robben usually turns to face the rest of the band so a bit right of center is often best, that also gets you out of the "line of fire" of those Celestions. Bob has been standing on the left side (stage right) in two of the venues I saw which moves Robben over a bit and he was facing forward more often. He also likes to retreat behind his rig at times when other people are soloing. Also, Robben doesn't turn down when he comps so if you sit too close (I know you want to), out of the line of the PA, you may not be able to hear Bob or Robben's singing that well.

Where is the 3/2 show really being held? The author of this topic shows it as being in Albany whereas the tour information schedule last updated on 2/14 still shows it as being in NY, NY (presumably still BB King's?).

If the 3/2 show is in Albany, what club/venue is it?

Thanks,
JSS

When this original post was written the show was scheduled for Albany. Has since been changed to NYC.

Robben @ The Tralf in Buffalo.

Oh, Yeah! A tip o' the hat to Robben & the Smokin' band! My thoughts are in parenthesis below:

speechless---> ( ) <---speechless

Seriously, the setlist was just about what has been published previously, so I won't retype it here. The 8pm show with no opening act started just about on time and ended just shy of 10pm. Bass, drums & sax backing him with little chit-chat between tunes left the whole evening to some freekin' great grooves. I think Chevy trucks is gonna have to stop using "Like A Rock". 'cuz Hillary Jones is as steady as a rock... in fact, she got almost as huge a cheer at the end as Robben.

A center viewing spot was definately the place to be. And you're right, Leftbender, Robben does play loud. The Dumble lives! Just the Baker & Tele -- back & forth all night. Though not necessarily my fav, Don't Make Sense caught my attention the most last night... really seemed like it was coming from Ford's heart. Some interesting use of a volume pedal last night, too. I didn't get close enough to see his pedalboard (the glare from the black satin pants was too strong...heheh Shocked )... anyone know what he had

Basically nothing. Daved's page has a through run down of Robbens set up but esentially there's a wah down there and everything else you see him stepping on are footswitch controllers for what you see behind him. The Dumble lead channel and tone bypass, and the 5 or 6 delay programs that Robben uses. That's it. No foot pedal modification whatsoever. A well tuned basic set up and a man with the hands, ears, and passion to make it all work. There are tons of threads on this board where people have disected gear options and playing technique but we are all here because we are inspired by the way Robben puts it all together. Welcome.
