Just got home from tonights show and I'm still in awe. My first time seeing Robben in a club and I took the advice of people here and got a spot in front of his amp.
Set :
Over My Head
Nothing to Nobody
Indianola
Moonchild Blues
Keep on Running
Homework
It Don't Make Sense
Cannonball Shuffle
Lovin Cup
Help The Poor
Badge
Chevrolet.......encore
special moments :
Nothing to Nobody.....A fantastic rendering of this song played at a faster tempo than on the CD with long extended solos by Bob and Robben that words can't describe......a very jazzy version of this great song
It Don't Make Sense.....Once again played at a faster tempo, almost a swing beat......long bluesy solo by Bob that had the crowd going wild.....Robben's 2nd solo in this song used some kind of effect that made the guitar sound like an electric cello or violin.......awesome
Help the Poor.......such a different version of this song that i didn't recognize it until Robben started to sing....kind of a Latin or Bossa nova flavor to it......2 great solos by Bob and Robben while playing the song in this style....then Bob and Robben left the stage and Dewayne and Hillary got their solo time ( great stuff ) when everyone returned they switched to an up tempo fusion style finish with a searing guitar solo by Robben that left me breathless. This song was the high point of a show filled with high points.
Other stuff :
I can't say enough about the way Robben fills with chords and and other neat stuff while Bob is playing solos. It seems like with no keyboards he has to do more of this and really enjoys it. He was making some great faces while doing this and playing some unique and off the wall chords on the off beats. Awesome.
His band is fantastic and Bob, Dewayne and Hilary were terrific.
The effortless way in which Robben performs is amazing to me. It seems like the guitar is an extension of his body. He is so cool and relaxed with his audience. Not much chatter, but a relaxed charm about him. Although
he did ask us why we came out and missed the academy awards.
For Elizabeth : Blue blazer type jacket, colorful geometric print shirt not tucked in, jeans, brown loafers.
I'm running out of superlatives and it's time for bed. It's hard to put into words how much i enjoyed the show. See ya. |

Robben does that effect with his volume pedal.
Glad you had a good time. The Milestones shows are always fun. _________________ B C-ing U!

fingerlakes: Thanks for the great report! Of course, you forgot to tell Elizabeth WHICH PAIR of the brown loafers. I'm also one of those people whose wife enjoys the Academy Awards, and she called me into the TV room to see and hear Alison Krause's two songs. Each had its own special feature. In the first it was Sting playing a hurdy-gurdy. Wow. You don't see a lot of those on the bandstand these days. (And I don't necessarily reccomend that Robben pick up a hurdy-gurdy player for the rest of the tour.) In the second it was a grand old highly-styled carved-top guitar in the hands of Elvis Costello. It certainly looked like one of Orville Gibson's late-1800's masterpieces. And as Costello strummed the last few chords over the fading choir I said to myself, "Yup. It's a Gibson. 130 years and they still haven't figured out how to build a guitar that'll stay in tune!" For your part, you got fabulous music from fabulous musicians using fabulous musical tools. (But'cha missed Alison's $2M jewelled shoes.) _________________ - BlueRunner |
