That green quilt is making me nauseous. There has to be a better picture than that. Seriously.

Last time I was in Vegas Ed Roman had a Baker B1 for 5k. I think Wild West Guitars is still selling B1s in the 2k range.

As for the comments about the price: I learned long ago that the closer you get to perfection the more the price increases logrhythmically. (sp?) E.g., to get an instrument that's 10% better, you pay twice as much. To get an instrument that's 10% better than that, you pay five times the base price. While I'll bet that there are guitars made in China that cost $500 and are 80% as nice as the Baker, to see an instrument that was hand made here in the U.S. and almost jumps off the screen and into your hands tells you that $6K is probably not out of line. Just wish I had the $6K.

If you think guitarists are nuts, look at the stuff some people use to listen to it through. 18 watt amps from Audio Note in Japan, over $100K with transformers hand wound with pure silver wire. $40K air-bearing turntables from England and then you have to spend several thousand on the tonearm and many thousands more on the cartridge. All in the pursuit of discovering every last nuance in Ella's delivery or capturing a bit of Robben's magic.

For what it's worth, there are people around who blow that sort of money on slot machines, gambling, drugs, alcohol etc.

If your only vice/addiction is the pursuit of tonal nirvana, and you can actually afford the pursuit, it's ok, presuming you don't have better things you should be doing with the money (food, mortgage, chocolate...).

IMHO, life's too short to drink bad coffee, drink cheap wine or have bad tone.

This thread has brought back memories of my days as an amateur racing cyclist, over 30 years ago. Friends were shocked that I'd pay more for a racing bicycle than they paid for their cars (used, that is). (And mind you, this was in the days before carbon fiber.) Stuff that was hand-brazed and hand-machined by guys in Italy didn't come cheap. Buying a bike that was two pounds lighter than your competitor's could set you back an extra $1,000. But when you were battling up a steep mountain road, it was worth every penny.

It's all a matter of what you value. And it's hard not to value one of those Bakers.

very nice guitar!

You gotta love any sort of figured Mahogany and I suspect the photos don't do your guitar justice. I have one guitar (not a Baker though) with burled mahogany T/B/S and it looks sensational, so I imagine yours would be something else when viewed in person.

You can keep it though at that price! Cool

I used to have an Ibanez Artisan that had a burled mahogany top. Probably just a vener, but really beautiful and different. Small form (LP sized) dual cut, thin line hollowbody with a center block. Like the 336 but much better. Unfortunately, the neck wasn't stable and had to be readjusted constantly. And the pickups were this odd three screw mounting that didn't lend itself to a simple swap for better ones. Too bad. I've never seen another one like it, your Baker brings back memories.
