That Ibanez is the AM-200. They still make it. I almost bought a used one once but the frets were too worn. I never heard about the neck instability. Probably a good thing I didn't buy it.

I think it was just mine. The neck was almost the same as my Esprit which is perfectly stable. I wouldn't mind finding another of those Ibanez's and putting better pickups in it. Definitely worth a fret job. Very balanced, responsive and easy to play guitar.

Actually, fun to see that your bass is a Carvin. The only other BBS in the whole wide world where I hang out is the Carvin BBS. I took the liberty of posting the eBay link for your Baker there, so maybe you'll have a whole new crew of guitar admirers to be cautioned by your "don't bid on this guitar" greeting.
My own guitar instructor went to Robben's 3/27 clinic, where Robben showed off the Les Paul he'd recently purchased. With Ernie Ball now owing Gene Baker's name, and Ed Roman owning the right to actually manufacture Baker Guitars (ain't the U.S. Bankruptcy Code the cat's pajamas?) maybe Robben feels that the only legally safe place to go these days is Kalamazoo. Oh yeah, that's right. Now it's Nashville. (Just can't trust a company that has to keep moving to stay a step ahead of its creditors.) And speaking of poor Gene, now that he's using "Mean Gene" for a web name, how long before the OTHER "Mean Gene," the World Wrestling Federation announcer with the "Mean Gene" hamburger franchises, sues him? By the time all of this is over, Baker may be back to making great guitars ... but they'll all be labeled "Nersteff Hischelstocker" or something. At least until the real Nersteff Hischelstocker sues Gene for trademark infringement.
Finally, I showed my wife the eBay listing. She knows very little about guitars, but unfortunately for you she's spent the past 24 hours frantically going through all of our accounts and other assets to see where she might come up with a free $6K.

Aeolian/Bill,
yep - that's the one - mine's an AM205 which is the Mahogany one (think the AM200 had a maple top). It's an all Mahogany beast too - top/back/sides - and looks pretty darn nice. The neck on mine's fine too although with those dimensions there's not much room for error in the construction, so I can see why some might have problems. Plays like butter too  .
The guitar does benefit from decent pickups too, although it ends up sporting some empty screw holes on one side of the pickup ring due to the 3 screw setup Aeolian mentioned. The stock 'super 58s' are actually not too bad, but a bit gutless for the bridge position. You also need to get a coil tap in there to get a bit more versatility - being all mahogany it's one fat sounding guitar. I went for a Duncan Jazz (neck) and Duncan Custom (bridge) which works well for me. Also considering retrofitting a Graphtech Ghost/FAAS bridge to bring it inline with my other guitars.
Not sure they're making these same models anymore, but they have resurrected the Artist series so you never know! If anyone does see one anywhere, let me know because they are a seriously good guitar and very well made (at least the ones from the mid 80's).
Apologies to all and especially to Gene for the Ibanez diversion  .

Its a 1955 gold Les Paul that he paid $5,500 for. I'll post a picture I have of it when I get home in a couple of days.

That's his old LP, Jim, which he still owns and still figures heavily in his studio work (as in the recent Jing Chi sessions)... check out my TechTalk site when I finish updating it in a few days.
I haven't yet seen the new LP, but we'll be using it and the Tele for the South Pacific tour this month (A lot of the reason he wanted to get a LP before we left the States was for use on the Jing Chi portion of the tour thru Japan), so I'll be able to look it over next week.
I believe Robben told me it is a mid 90's... I don't remember clearly as, at the time he & I talked, my concentration was a littled fogged & tunnel-visioned by the excitement of having just, myself, purchased a dream of my own that goes back almost 40 years... a Rickenbacker 360/12. It's a beautiful Ruby burst, made in March of 1994, with 'Vintage' style PUs, and in excellent shape. Everyone who has come in contact with it so far is suitably impressed, and...

Daved: Fantastic on the 360/12. You may some day get the chance to see our Santa Paula Fire Chief in wearing his "other hat" as guitarist for for local band "Eastwind." He's a long-time Strat player with serious rockabilly tendancies. Last Christmas his wife surprised him with a 360/12. Some Christmas. Some wife.

I've finally seen Robben's new LP and it's a beauty. It's a wheat colored burst... 1999.
We'll use it onstage for the first time tomorrow night here in Byron Bay.

| I'm guessing that the new LP is a Historic '59 in darkburst. The '99 models are usually excellent. Will be looking forward to seeing the first pictures. |
