I actually have no idea but I'd guess RF's using it on the clean channel. |

I ordered one last June and just got it in Feburary. The web site says 14 weeks. Marin found one in stock in a store in Europe.
Daved, More so than the dip switch settings (I am dippy enough) I'd be curious as to the internal tone control settings that are set on Robben's pedal. These change the sound more the the external tone control! _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

|
|
I have the Banzai Fireball II and use it with two amps - a 1980's Fender 60Watt Concert and an Ashdown Peacemaker 40. I use it with four different guitars - an old Gibson ES335, 1983 Fender Tele, Charvel, and a PRS.
I'm not a professional player, but I do play everyday for personal enjoyment. My question: There's a compression toggle switch on the Banzai effect - medium, off, and full.
Can someone explain in simple terms about the use of compression? In what cases would this be used and why? I've played around the use of it and in most cases, my ear says no compression. And yet, I see it spoken of quite frequently in the guitar playing world. In this regard, I'm guessing that I'm using it wrong.
The best to you! |

In simple terms, compression/limiting is when you clip off (compress) the peaks in the sound waves. When you add a lot of gain to an amp, it saturates and goes into "compression". At that stage you might notice that increasing the pre-amp level doesn't increase the output volume anymore, since the amp is in the saturation/compression stage.
The Banzai has a similar effect when you use the switch. However, if the overall signal that you are sending from the pedal already compresses/saturates the pre-amp stage of the amp, then the switch will have no effect.
At least that's what I have figured out in the past weeks.

Compression, especially when used with distortion (overdrive), creates sussssssssssssssstain. That's the whole point of using it when in a lead setting. For rhythm, it will reduce the dynamic range of your signal, enabling you to chunck-a-chunck your riffing without overpowering the singer or soloist. But the sustain is the thing. Be sure to increase the output a tad to "make up" the volume lost by the compression. You will notice that your sustained notes seem to ring forever (violin style). |

MJ Mirage GT guitar on both clips trough Skrydstrup amp, same amp settings on both clips. Quite a few clams , and i DONT sound like Robben

Marin & MPaul,
Sorry for the delayed response.... I sometimes miss some posted questions and/or sometimes when I return to answer a question, I can't find where it was originally posted.... so I wait for a "bump".
I have been deliberately holding off in the case of this question as, because of a series of complicated & confusing events, the DIP switches & internal pots got changed from their original configuration and Robben hasn't been wholely happy with the pedals sound since.
I have been trying to get an opportunity to spend some techtime with him to 'recalibrate' that pedal, along with a big box of other pedals that we want to try out, but because of international travel, etc., we just haven't been able to squeeze in the time as I haven't been able to carry the box-o'-peds with me.
I'll pass along our findings as soon as we get a chance to spend some time with our inherited 'toys'... which will hopefully be soon, as many of the pedal builders are waiting to hear from me, too. _________________ B C-ing U!

Daved, you, and Robben, should try this pedal, very amp like sounds, GREAT trough a clean fender (or the clean channel of a Dumbe style amp).

I'm sure Steve Webster will let you try one.. If you tell him I sent you _________________ Clips: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/abergdahlmusic.htm |

Daved,
I'm not sure what you meant by "original settings", but the internal factory settings are FD2-fm in the link below. If you and Robben had custom settings, I'm sure it will take some time to get them back.

Are the external settings in the FB2 picture on your web site typical of how you and Robben set the pedal? Just curious.

Thanks for the quick response. Make sure you try a Tim pedal when you are testing pedals. It is the only pedal besides the Banzai pedals that I have kept.
