|
|
Hi all, Im new to this forum but a long time Robben fan. I had the pleaseure of seeing him live last night at the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival in Byron Bay Australia. I have to say he was nothing short of amazing. My friend and I got there early so we were centre stage right up front. His guitar tone was fantastic he played the Tele & a beautiful Les Paul. His voice was great too. He inspired me to come home and start practising even more than ever. Now I don't know if Robben or any of his guys read this forum but on behalf of everyone who had the privilage of seeing the show thank you so so much for the great music and guitar playing inspiration. And also we apologise for the idiot that kept taking photographs of you after you told him not to, some people have no life. |

Hallo Fenderboy,
Can you let me know witch songs he played last night ?
Like a dear Robben-fanatic, I do like to know that, please !
It's been a long time that I saw Robben(last year somewhere in october),
I know all about those guys who can't put there cameras away, they just can't get enough ! They only take pictures and don't want to listen to that great music Robben plays,
Nice to hear from you those great words about Robben,.....keep in touch...
Greetings,
Fill from Brussels. _________________ Filmore |

Hi .. .agree with Fender re: Robben's gig on April 10th. I was new to Mr Ford but was lucky enough to catch his April 09 gig then of course the next night too.
The 2 sets varied a little in sequence as well as content and as I wasn't familiar with a lot of the material here's my effort at remembering:
Keep On Running - both sets
You'll Be Sorry - both
Badge - both
Peace Love & Understanding
amazing bass/drum solo/duet - can you give me names please?
I must admit to being surprised as seeing a female emerge from behind the kit!
so a fair bit from the latest album and some added middle 8's
At Byron we get a chance to queue after each set to meet artists and get merchandise autographed etc.
So 'Running' has felt pen all over the front now. Cool, eh? |

Robben was kind enough to hang around, shake hands and sign autographs for the fans - thanks Robben.
It was truly great to finally get to see you live !
can we start up a request for a clinic next time you are down under ??
thanks and come back soon |

Welcome to everyone new to the board! It's a beautiful morning here, and it feels great to hear about Robben's shows (even on the other side of the world). Can't wait for another USWC tour. Peter, the bass player is Dewayne Pate, drummer is Hilary Jones. When you all wake up, write again. |

Filmore,
As well as the song already mentioned he also played Help the Poor (that's where the bass & drum solo were). Dewayne is one monster bass player. My memory is deserting me I'm afraid oh yes he also played Chevrolet the Freddie King tribute of his new album Cannonball Shuffle He also played a Willie DIxon song but I can't remember what it was. Sorry about that. I wanted to get the set list of the floor but some young girl got there first but the roadie wouldn't give it to her anyway. The set was only about an hour long if I remember correctly.
As for his new guitars no sign of them just that beautiful LP and the tele. |

Hmmmm.... Don't know what roadie you're talking about, but no one asked ME about a set list. With rare exceptions, I usually give them away when asked (check the autographed ones that Aeloian, at least I think it was Aeolian, has posted).
Only time I have real problems is when fans decide to help themselves to picks, setlists, etc. I have had all kinds of things stolen from the stage and my work bench when my back was turned, including personal family photos from my workbox. How rude is that?!?! But, when fans are curteous and respectful I try to be generous whenever possible.
Correction: Robben didn't play "Peace, Love & Understanding" the other night. He hasn't worked out a live version yet, thought he does want to. The band will start working up "Bonnie" for future shows, at rehearsal today. _________________ B C-ing U!

Robben is very good about greeting fans after the shows. Hang around the offstage area for a bit, stage right in this case, along with the group of other fans I am sure you'll see there, and he'll usually come out after about 10 minutes of relaxing and changing from stage clothes. _________________ B C-ing U!

Dave,
As I've posted over in the TechTalk site, Robben is only using the Tele and his new LP on this leg. By the way, the LP is actually a "Tobacco" burst, but the browns are so light and the yellows are so golden that I prefer to think of it as "wheat" colored. _________________ B C-ing U!

Drummer= the lovely Hilary Jones and bassist extrodinaire Dewayne Pate (from Robben's brother, Patrick, band). It's all on the techtalk site, folks, along with photos.... just a link away. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hi Daved
Thankyou for the directions and reply. It is very much appreciated. I will do so tonight. At last I can meet one of my musical mentors in the flesh.
Regards to all.

Daved,
Sorry to have not been more specific with the "Roadie wouldn't give set list comment". It definately wasn't you I figure it was possibly one of the Festival crew as he seemed unsure as to whether or not he should give it to her. By the way thanks for the info on the LP, Could you supply a little more detail re the year and why Robben is using a LP instead of his new Baker's. Thanks very much. |
