Aeolian, this quote from your post on Larry's show at Yoshi's reminds me of another new "blues record with a horn section" that I've been listening to recently -- Johnny A's Get Inside.

Get Inside is a beautiful, self-produced instrumental cd. Johnny A. has filled this cd with his own mix of snappy, twangy, passionate melodies and some really cool contemporary pickin'.

But more importantly, this new cd is a wonderful example of what results when a talented musician makes music exactly as he or she wants to.

It takes a huge amount of courage to follow your own muse and ironman endurance to maintain your creativity through completion of your vision. When I listen to this cd, I can feel Johnny A.'s vision. The passion in his playing overflows.

My wife and I were lucky enough to see Johnny A perform in Madison, Wisconsin on March 26 and could not have been more impressed. This guy is one very hot guitar player! His music could be described as some sort of inspired combination of Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix, and the best of the Ventures, with a little jazz and blues stirred into the mix.

Johnny played every single tune from his two solo albums, plus about a half dozen other songs including a Chuck Berry song and a Hendrix medley that left the audience stunned--no breaks or patter.

The best concert I've seen since I saw Robben and Sonny Landreth together two years ago.

Johnny A opened for Robben at the Bottom Line two years ago, I really enjoyed it, a great show.
