Was surfing the net to find some info on Barney Kessel, who passed away recently, and ran across a great quote from him:
"Playing scales is like a boxer skipping rope or punching a bag. It's not the thing in itself; it's preparatory to the activity."
Thought this was appropriate to share. For those of you unfamiliar with Kessel, check him out. Man, could he swing. He did a great series of videos years ago, too, that are worth checking out.

.013's and flatwounds wouldn't let him bend like BB but Barney could get down with the blues as well. Got a chance to see him at Yoshi's before things went really bad and had been following the ups and and downs the last couple of years. Sad to lose another of the greats.
Great quote. Here's one I like from Bruce Lee: "Instead of actually 'being in' combat, the practitioner is 'doing something about' combat". Substitute music for combat and you have the essecense of what we are talking about. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
