I understand Baker Guitars has or soon will be in chapter 11 and Gene has some relationship with Erni Ball/ Musicman. Anyone have any more info? Is getting a Baker guitar now a good idea? I like the mahogany chambered body spruce top with ebony board model.
Thanks,
Jonathan

As far as I know, Baker Guitars is going to become part of Ernie Ball. Gene stopped production a few months ago in preparation for this.

BTW, I have a BJC Mohogany Body / Spruce Top with Ebony Board. I put this one together before the RF or Robin Ford model came out. It's great to play and has a tone fairly similar to the more expensive Ford model. Good combo.

I'm a little concerned about this transaction. It seems strange to me that Baker would shut down production so long before the acquisition of his business. The production and marketing shutdowns decrease the value of EB's purchase. Normally, you would expect the 2 companies to ensure as smooth a transition, with little or no downtime, as possible. That's not the case here.

Gene Baker can't even tell his customers what's going to happen to the warranty on pre-EB guitars. There no service on Baker guitars right now.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Baker guitar and I really like it, but I wouldn't be surprised if we never see another new Baker guitar.

Something just smells fishy to me.

Hoping I'm wrong,
Joe

I was hoping to hear some form of news out of NAMM on the merger.

In a case like this, no news is bad news.

It would be a terrible waste if Baker Guitars (whomever the owner might be) become a thing of the past. Crying or Very sad

Anyone have the latest? Question

Has anyone had any feedback about Gene Baker, Ernie Ball, etc....?

I've seen Kirk95's post on the Baker forum (with no reply).

Gene posted a reply on Sept 10, to the effect that he was hoping to have news to tell by month's end...

Baker went bankrupt. Ed Roman bought Baker's name and trademarks. Ernie Ball will eventually come out with a new line of "Baker-like" guitars with Gene under a new name.

I'm sure Ed Roman will "improve" Baker guitars and start shipping new models under the Baker name.

Sounds like RF will stick with Baker, but I imagine he'll switch to a new version of the RF guitar, this one made by EB/Gene's new brand.

Baker Guitar's without Gene Baker? How can that work?

and..I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about EB Bakers? Maybe that will change over time when we see the new line? Crying or Very sad

The whole thing is really frustrating. It was so exciting to have somebody building such great high quality guitars... Mad
