It was a suit night...Chris even made comments that he was worried that the buttons might pop off and cause litigation to the Carriage House. He looked adorable and as usual, was in fine form with humor and ambience with the crowd.
I love that place..beautiful drive up the mountain, gorgeous surroundings, and a 300 seat theatre. Chairs are comfy, the first row is maybe 1 meter from the stage, and Shane and Chris both took advantage of that by hopping off the stage, almost into the laps of the people in the front row.
Danny Hull did play keyboards, but only occasionally. His strong suit is major harp, and playing two saxaphones at the same time...welllll, what can I say?
David Matthews is so good, so energetic, and the chemistry between the four of them was pure magic.
Everyone was in such a great mood, having fun, and getting in the groove. The man who came with me was really impressed at the fact that when we came into the theatre, we were a bunch of strangers. By the end of the night, Chris wanted to take us home with him, and we were united in BLUES...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I love it! The people in the seats around us commented that it was too bad that I had no enthusiasm for the show (Ha ha ha ha ha! And to think I was behaving low-key..)
The one snag: Sunday night, getting home at 1 A.M. and trying to get to sleep so I could get up at 6...ohhh godddddd, I'm gettin' waaaaaaay too old for this kind of stuff, BUT I LOVE IT! :D
Did I tell you that they announced Shane Dwight's name backwards? He seemed unphased, and worked the crowd into a frenzy. _________________ www.elizabethgage.com

Thanks,

I'm kind of partial to "Unscheduled Flight" which is the first release that to me really captured the subtlty of Chris' playing. Also in a basic blues vein, his "Cain Does King" where he comes right out with an unabashed tribute is great. The last one, "Hall of Shame" has less 12 bar songs but his writing is still instantly recognizable as blues. The playing on this album is more harmonically sophisticated as well, but just as full of soul as any basic blues riffs. Chris used to play early Yellowjackets and stuff. He can rip fusion with the best of them but nowdays it just adds color to great soulful blues playing. For a double shot, the Michael Bloomfield tribute album is mostly Chris and Robben trading songs. Like Robben, Chris was heavily inspired by Bloomfield and you can hear echos in both their playing here. Particularly Chris on "Blues With A Feeling" and Robben on "Maryann" _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

I'm not sure if I've heard Blues With a Feeling by Bloomfield, but on the songs Chris does on that CD that I HAVE heard by Bloomfield, Chris aped the solos note for note. Same as when they played live. No echo baby, Memorex.
