I was ready to but he had that thing in the bag so quickly at the end of the day I missed it.

That reminds me about something interesting he told us. He was pretty sure that the 355 he had on Saturday was the same one he used on Misdirected Blues from the Mystic Mile recording. On Saturday, the low E slipped off the bridge while he was playing and he said that actually happened to him twice during the recording of Misdirected Blues and that you can hear it on the CD. Haven't had a chance to check it out but I plan to soon.

Maybe next time I snap a pic earlier in the day. Sorry about that.

Interesting axe. Robben said that it had "been sitting under the piano" for quite some time. Don't know what possessed him to pull it out for Saturday.

The first time I saw Robbed was at the old Yoshi's. I had a copy of Handful of Blues which had just come out and didn't know anything else about Robben much less ever heard of a Dumble amplifier. He had the same Deluxe he used at the clinic, the goldtop Les Paul and the red 355. Both seldom seen since. The 355 was stereo and I was amazed to see him fighting to get the plug in halfway everytime he switched guitars. Someone at this level you would think would have had the jack replaced or rewired to work with a normal cord. He didn't remember when but it now has a mono jack in it. He said he also has another one that was originally mono. This one has the Gibson Vibrolla tailpiece which may have something to do with the strings popping off the saddles. There wasn't much downward angle there (that sound you hear is 200 guitarists raising the stop bars on their 335s Razz ). Most of the time he kept the Vibrolla handle turned backwards against the large trimplate which kind of locks it in place. But at one point he grabbed it and subtley worked a chord, with a slight smile on his face at the sound that came out. Robben with a wiggler! Never saw that before Cool

Thanks to everyone for the excellent posts! It's been over a year since the clinic that I was fortunate enough to attend, and I echo everyone's sentiments.

I'm wondering if anyone took a picture of the Les Paul that Robben was playing. There was a rather blurry one posted a while back - anyone have any others? I also have a '99 Historic LP and would love to see how his looks. A friend attended the Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" tribute show at BB King's a couple weeks ago and said Robben's LP looked quite similar to mine. I'm curious. Very Happy

I'm putting together the second half of my TechTalk update... should be ready very soon. I'll have some pictures of the new LP in it.
