Hi all!

I've been lurking about for a few months and have yet to introduce myself, so I thought might as well do it now.

My name is Irina, I'm Russian but I live in Padua (Italy). I've studied classical guitar for many years, years ago, but lost interest at some point during my life. Only recently I decided to devote real time (when I get any spare... it's a problem because I have a full time job and a large family: 3 children and 1 husband) to learning the electric guitar playing.

I've seen Robben live in Marghera (Venice). The show was magnificent Razz , Robben's charm irresistible Embarassed !

My favorite album is Handful of blues. It's supernatural... ooops... I like "Supernatural" too!

Just hope I can continue to use these boards to help expand my knowledge and gain invaluable advice.

Great Robben, great site, great forum!

Thank you for welcoming me!

I have few Robben's records such as "Sunrise" "Talk to your daughter" "Robben Ford & the Blue Line" (CD/DVD) "Handful of blues" "Supernatural" "Blue Moon" "Keep on running". I haven't really listened to all of him albums. I shall try to correct this omission in the nearest time, and I shall do it with a great pleasure Very Happy .

As Robben sings in "My Time After Awhile":

"Let me see if I can talk (write) to this girl, child before you go,
"It is so pleasant to see guitar music admirer from Russia on this excellent forum".
But she even did not locked at me, turned around and want out the door".
I've looked at my window, what you think I see Shocked ,
Elizabeth is waving - Dosvidania Tovarisch - in long black limousine.
It's your time now girls, your time,
But soon it will be Kirk's and my time after Awhile!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ах, какой сюрприз! Блюзмен знает русский язык! На этом форуме собрались замечательные личности. Спасибо тебе, и всего хорошего!

Thank's all for the great hospitality in the forum. I'll help you if you get in over your heads in Russian language... in exchange for an advice: how to choose a reasonable electric guitar and amplifier for beginners?

PS I'll never "turn around and go out the door" of this board!!!! (Don't worry, it is not a threat....)

Irina, I highly recommend an Ibanez electric guitar. I recently bought the cheapest Ibanez I could find, from American Musical Supply, model GRX20JB (Jewel Blue), for $149.95 + $18.95 for soft case +$10 shipping. I can't believe how great it feels, looks, and sounds. I keep this guitar at work to play during breaks. I also have another Ibanez that I use as my primary guitar which I also bought from AMS for $280. As far as feel, I honestly can't tell the difference between the guitars. The Ibanez neck feels like you're playing effortlessly.

For an amplifier, I would recommend a Fender Frontman 25W with reverb, about $140. Or, if you want to save $40, get the 15W model.

Also, AMS offers free shipping on orders over $299. I'm not sure if this is true for International shipments, but you can ask. Check them out on the internet! They have lots of good stuff for the best prices...

Happy shopping!

JSS

JSS, I just found out that American Musical Supply do not ship outside the continental USA, like most USA resellers Crying or Very sad ...

I'll search for Ibanez GRX20JB in Europe. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know!

If you're going to be doing a Robben type thing, the Affinity Squire Telecaser is a very playable guitar. I had one that I paid $120US for brand new and used on gigs. For a little more money, the Highway 1 Tele is a totaly professional instrument for a student price. And both are available in white with rosewood fingerboards, just like Robben's Smile

My favorite cheap amp, once you get past the transistor practice amps, is the Peavy Classic 30. Great tone turned down quiet and can be used for jam sessions.

With these two things, the only thing keeping you from Robben's tone is practice, practice and more practice.

Glad to have you here, hope you enjoy all the different comments from folks who range from beginners to working musicians. We all enjoy Robben and carry a little bit of that in ourselves.
